Description

Art Taylor A.T.'s Delight - Blue Note LP

US Blue Note 4047 - Deep Groove Both Sides - RVG & "Earmark" in Dead Wax

Drummer Art Taylor was on many sessions as a sideman in the 1950s but he only led three albums during the period, and this was his only one for Blue Note. Heading a quintet/sextet also including the underrated bop trumpeter Dave Burns, the up-and-coming tenorman Stanley Turrentine, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and (on three of the six songs) Potato Valdez on conga, Taylor performs a pair of Kenny Dorham tunes plus a song apiece by John Coltrane (the obscure "Syeeda's Song Flute"), Thelonious Monk, Denzil Best, and his own calypso "Cookoo and Fungi." — Scott Yanow (AMG)
