Scarce album of terrific electronic experimental and classical music arranged for and performed entirely on the mythic EMS Synthi 100 synthesizer by Artemiev, Bogdanov, and Martynov, released in 1980 but probably recorded in the early 70s. Works include original avant garde compositions by those three as well as spacy electronic rearrangements of the older classical pieces. The Synthi 100 was an early polyphonic analog synth behemoth that evolved from the EMS VCS-3; only 30 were ever constructed, but they made their way into the capable hands of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop (used to generate sound effects for Doctor Who and The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy), Karlheinz Stockhausen (used in his compositions 'Sirius' and 'Zodiac'), Piero Umiliani, the Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music/IPEM in Belgium (used by Lucien Goethals), and Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto.

Artemiev is an electronic composer known for his film scores (the ANS Synthesizer is featured prominently in his soundtracks to the great Andrei Tarkovsky films Solaris and The Mirror) as well as his later prog-rock experiments; he studied under Yuri Shaporin, worked at the Moscow Experimental Studio of Electronic Music along with Edison Denisov, Alfred Schnittke, Sofia Gubaidulina, Alexander Nemtin, and Gidon Kremer, and cites as influences the state-forbidden bootleg recordings he managed to find by Tangerine Dream, Herbert Eimert, Luciano Berio, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Klaus Schulze, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Isao Tomita, Luigi Nono, Pierre Schaeffer, Gyorgi Ligety, Edgard Varese, Milton Babbitt, Pierre Boulez, John Cage, Pierre Henry, Earle Brown, York Holler, Takehisa Kosugi, Steve Reich, and Henri Pousseur. • Should also be of interest to fans of Vladimir Ussachevsky, Ruth White, Pietro Grossi, Robert Moog, Jean-Michelle Jarre, Paul Beaver, Bernie Krause, Oskar Sala and the trautonium, Morton Subotnick, Vangelis, Jean-Jacques Perrey, Gershon Kingsley, Raymond Scott, Bruce Haack, Tom Dissevelt, Clara Rockmore and the Theremin, Donald Buchla, ondes Martenot, Ondioline, Arp, Mort Garson, etc.

Packing I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers which I have determined are the best and most protective, reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
