Description
Ataulfo Argenta Limited Edition Box by Alto Records. This set contains this famous conductors 6 recordings on the Alhambra record company label as well as a special 45 rpm version of Manual de Fallas, Three Cornered Hat. It also includes the 12 page booklet which covers Argenta's musical and life history and information about the recordings. The present boxed set consists of works by various Spanish composers recorded by Argenta for Spanish Columbia shortly before his untimely death. Some performances like Falla's "Nights in the Garden of Spain" with Soriano, and the "Concierto de Aranjuez" with Yepes are very famous. Others like the "Halffter Sinfonietta", Argenta's last recording, are rare, fetching high prices secondhand in specialist LP shops. These have been masterfully cut from the original master tapes at Abbey Road Studios in London, flown over specially from Spain, and are highly collectible as they are no longer available. I am the original owner and have never played them.
The records are graded mint/ never played. The outer box is in very good to excellent condition with two mild scuff marks and on the box cover front and a little wear on the bottom front edge of the box. This is a beautifully done limited edition that has received rave reviews in all the music and audiophile journals.
