Description
Up for sale is an album containing three (3) twelve (12) inch RED VINYL, 78 RPM records. It was issued in 1950 and contains several great offerings from the acclaimed A Cappella Choir of a small Texas liberal arts college. These are not your typical heavy black shellac 78 records. They are lightweight vinyl and have a terrific visual appeal with their see through brilliant red hue. When you hold them to the light, the effect is really pretty spectacular!

Austin College is actually located in Sherman, Texas. Sherman is not close to Austin, the state capitol of Texas. It is actually north of Dallas. The college was formed in 1849 and is the oldest college in Texas that is still operating under its original charter. It is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA).
The school's A Cappella Choir was under the musical directorship of Robert W. Bedford. He had been recruited a few years before to organize the Music Department. He is said to have had "an iron grip" on the group and his high standards were reflected in much success. The songs on this album were performed during an extensive US tour in 1950, which included a broadcast from New York and a performance before General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA, in Massanetta Springs, Virginia. In 1957, the ensemble would make history by becoming the first American choir to win a medal (3rd Prize) at the International Polyphony Choral Festival at Arezzo, Italy.
