Description

In the history of Bluegrass duets there are the Osborne Brothers, the Stanley Brothers, Jim & Jessie and, of course, Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs. Originally with Bill Monroe, these were the original "Bluegrass Boys" who spun off from Monroe, went out on their own, and never looked back. Wonderful song selections, vocals and instrument playing were their forte but many of us today still revere them for the spectacular banjo playing of Earl Scruggs. This 1961 album from Columbia Records is entitled "Songs of the Famous Carter Family" and was numbered "CL1664". This is a long playing 12" record featuring songs created by the Carter family. The album cover has been signed in blue ink by both Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs near their cover illustrations (photos 4 & 5). Cover and vinyl are in good condition. There is a certificate of authenticity (photo 7) for this item which will be included in the sale. Song titles are listed in photos 10 & 11. Mother Mabelle Carter herself is also a guest artist  on this recording as are the duo's old accompanists, the Bluegrass Boys. Own a piece of bluegrass history with these legendary musicians who personally signed the album.  Earl was kind enough to sign the head of my banjo back at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago many years ago. He asked that people forgive him for not shaking hands as sometimes well meaning fans crushed his fingers!
