Description

Back in the mid 1970s, the Athens, GA alternative post-punk dance and party band the B52s were born. By 1978, the band released their debut single "Rock Lobster" on the tiny DB Records label. In 1979, the band signed with Island Records, and re-recorded the song "Rock Lobster" for the debut album.


"Rock Lobster" was re-released again, in 1987, in the UK, on a rectangular shaped picture disc! It's really cool, and has a BLUE lobster on the A side, and a band pic with titles and credits is on the B side. "Planet Claire", another single released from the debut album, is on the B side!


This was part 2 of a 3 part release, which came with a clear PVC three slot sleeve that was issued when you bought part 1 (Part 1 is the rock. Part 3 is space stuff, for the "Planet Claire" track. This 2nd part is the lobster. Nearly impossible to find ALL three AND the original jacket!)


I cannot vouch for the sound quality on either side, as I never play specialty vinyl, such as colored records or picture discs. There is minor flaws in the clear rim around the record, and it feels smooth, so it was probably made in the manufacturing process. (See last 2 pics for closeups of flaws.) But overall, this vintage piece from the B52s looks great, and is rare as can be! A sweet and vintage B52s collectible, to have, or give as a gift for that new wave and alternative fan in your life!
