  Description BABS GONZALES "TALES ON THE FAMOUS GUESS WHO?" Expubidence Records EXP-001. Cover: NEAR MINT, Vinyl: NEAR MINT, Labels: MINT! FIRST PRESSING c.1961 33 1/3 RPM 12-INCH LP RECORD/DEEP GROOVE PRESSING! BABS GONZALES was the ULTIMATE HIPSTER! He made the music, he lived the life and he wrote the book! Actually, he did write the "Dictionary of Jive Talk"! He was an integral player in the BE-BOP MOVEMENT of the late Forties! He and TADD DAMERON formed the first JAZZ VOCALESE group THREE BIPS AND A BOP! He wrote "Oop-Pop-Pa-Da" which was a hit recording for DIZZY GILLESPIE! He was a SONGWRITER, VOCALIST, PRODUCER, HUSTLER and RACONTEUR who was involved with most of the BOP JAZZ GIANTS! He totally lived the HIPSTER life-style and even recorded some albums of JIVE-TALKING HIPSTER TALES of his famous friends and some of their not-so-famous goofs! He was a very down cat, the MOST EXPUBIDENT CAT OF THEM ALL, the TOAST of New York, Hollywood, and Europe [The Continent!]. Yet, he left a small and obscure recorded legacy. This is one of the VERY RAREST ALBUMS released by BABS GONZALES! This was pressed on his own Expubidence label in EXTREMELY SMALL amounts, probably in the hundreds! These were sold ONLY by BABS himself from the stage when he made personal appearances in the very early Sixties! There are three volumes in this series known to exist! And, HEY MAN, this one was AUTOGRAPHED by BABS himself!! In the upper left corner of the front cover [written in red pen ink] BABS has inscribed: "TOMMY...ME & YOU..."BABS"! WOW! This series of SPOKEN WORD records feature BABS engaging in incredible stories about his FAMOUS JAZZ MUSICIAN FRIENDS, MUSIC INDUSTRY INSIDERS and INCREDIBLE HEP-CAT CHARACTERS he knew! The stories are all true but he won't tell you the names of the people he's talking about. You have to guess for yourself, and you usually can! The beginnings of light wear will be evident on the cover and some surface scuffs will appear on the vinyl, BUT record will play with no surface noise. VG++: use is evident but not bad. Cover has ring wear and vinyl has noticeable surface wear. Should play with NO surface noise during the music. VG+: average used record, looks OK, plays OK. No surface noise is noticeable during the music. Some surface noise is possible during quiet passages. VG: Cover shows more than normal wear and vinyl shows more than normal wear.
