BABY WASHINGTON
LEAVE ME ALONE
Her sultry delivery earned Justine "Baby" Washington R&B chart hits in four different decades, most notably on the delectable uptown soul classic "That's How Heartaches Are Made" for Sue Records in 1963.
Born in South Carolina but raised in Harlem, Washington was a member of the Hearts in 1956 before tallying her first R&B hit in 1959 with "The Time" for Neptune. Billed occasionally as Jeanette or Justine Washington, she was still having hits on the R&B charts in the 1980s.
This one's from August of 1963 and the topside is "Leave Me Alone." The tune was a moderate hit at the time but was since discovered by Northern Soul collectors and turned into quite the tasty little item. Listen to the sound sample and you'll soon hear why. Is it just me or does the melody of this sound quite a bit like "Spanish Harlem." ?
This one's flipped with "You And The Night And The Music."
