Description

BACH composed his six suites for unaccompanied cello between approximately 1717 and 1723, and Pablo Casals’ landmark recordings made in France and England between 1936 and 1939 remain among the most celebrated interpretations in the classical catalog. This is the original 1972 US pressing on Angel Records, catalog number CB-3786, pressed and mastered at the Capitol Records pressing plant in Los Angeles. The set comprises three LPs spanning all six suites across six sides, with Suites 1, 4, 5, and 6 recorded in France and Suites 2 and 3 recorded in England. The release is mono. Labels are the classic dark blue and gold Angel cherub design with “MASTERED BY CAPITOL” in the runout. All three discs are in mint condition, showing no signs of play, with brilliant undisturbed groove surfaces. Original Angel poly-lined inner sleeves are present and in near mint condition. The box shows shelf wear to the surface and edges consistent with storage over the decades, grading VG. Liner notes are printed on the reverse of the slipcase. An exceptional set of discs in a well-preserved presentation.
