*Possibly released in 1973 on a private label (Hawk Eye), this one and only album by Bill Baker (bass, vocals) and Dave Paugh (guitars, vocals), with Rich Sanders (keyboards, fleugal horn, vibes) and Al Adams (drums) comes out of Fairfield, Connecticut. What it is is remarkably well executed sunshine pop. Perhaps if these guys got some exposure, they might have made a name for themselves. Even though a little dated (sounds sort of '60s) it's a real hidden gem, and rather rare now, with no CD ever produced. Professional playing, good vocals and harmonies, nice arrangements, and the songwriting is pretty good as well. Every once in a while when this album appears for sale, it gets misclassified as white soul/funk, or folk/rock. There may be some small elements of those things but really, it's sunshine pop with a '70's sensibility. Strip the dark sarcasm out of Steely Dan, add some early Hall & Oates, and a dash of a '70's one-hit wonder like King Harvest ("Dancing in the Moonlight") and you have Baker and Paugh. In spite of the album's scarcity (no CD either), it never seems to sell for more than twenty bucks, So here it is for $20.00.
