BARBARELLA Soundtrack LP JANE FONDA, BOB CREWE 1968
RARE UK STATESIDE LP WITH ICONIC COVER & 60S GROOVES
On offer is The Original Film Soundtrack to BARBARELLA – starring Jane Fonda – which was released in the UK in stereo on the STATESIDE label Stateside SSL 10260 in 1968. Lyrics and music are by Bob Crewe and Charles Fox, with the Bob Crewe Generation Orchestra, and the songs are sung by the Glitterhouse and Bob Crewe.
The iconic front cover sleeve is in lovely EX condition – it is very clean – with no writing or biro marks - and the colours on the front picture sleeve cover are bright and fresh (see scan). The back cover is also in EX condition – the only very minor blemish being some slight discoloration in the lower left hand corner on the flip back (again see scan) – but this is not major and does not detract from the overall beauty of this original LP sleeve from the cult movie Barbarella.
The vinyl is visually in lovely EX/EX- condition – this is a very well looked after example of this rare soundtrack LP- it has nice clean vinyl and nice clear labels (again no writing or marks on the labels). Overall this copy (which has been in my own collection for many years now) is a lovely example of this scarce LP which has been well looked after over the years. This is a rare LP these days – and is especially hard to find in the lovely condition that this example is in.
For information the film has been described as a ‘cult erotic sci-fi thriller’. The film and lead character – played by Jane Fonda - was based on the French 'Barbarella' comic book created by Jean-Claude Forest. Barbarella was a very sexy, futuristic space traveller and I still recall the mixture of fun and amazement on first viewing it at the cinema. The Soundtrack is replete with groovy late 1960's psychedelic strings, guitars and vocals. It has been described as ‘one of the most insanely wonderful soundtracks from the late 60's -- filled with weird instrumental touches and sublimely groovy vocals that really match the mad spirit of the film.’ Amongst other things the film is remembered for providing the name of the group - Duran Duran – named after one of the baddies Durand Durand.
