ALWAYS THE bridesmaid but never the bride, BJH spent years on the early seventies college and University circuit living under the formiddible shadow of similiar sounding acts such as the Moody Blues, Pink Floyd and Genesis. This, their sprigtly second album, suffered much carping from critics, particularly regards the use of the Melotron - an instrument that was being widely utilsed at the time by the Moody Blues. Indeed, and somewhat unfairly, they were often described by the music press as the poor man's Moody Blues.
Whilst its true that there is copious use of the 'tron on this album it does, however, showcase a band fully in command of their direction. The writing is hugely impressive and the bands, largely grandiose, arrangements (ably assisted by future Enid frontman Robert John Godfrey) are big, bold and exteremely formidable. The opening track 'She Said' is unusually forceful pitching them somewhere between Deep Purple and (early) Uriah Heep whilst elsewhere the dramatic and theatrical arrangements often take the high ground over more trad prog rock faire. But that's not to say that they were in anyway a predictable cabal as every track is a mini meisterwork in itself. Best track, and one that became effectively their anthem is 'Mocking Bird' which kicks off side two in a hugely impressive way, subdued and mellancolic at first, but building upon the 'tron foundation that soon elevates it into the stratosphere.

Vinyl: Very nice clean and shiny condition. Displays a few spindle marks on labels but virtually no use whatsoever. Grades as top MINT-!
Cover: Again, virtually no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated fully laminated gatefold cover - retains full gloss. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is perfect stiff, square and uncrushed. Beautiful! Impossible to find like this 44 years after release. Grades as shop fresh MINT-!
