GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : va innanzitutto precisato che quest'album contiene solo quattro tracce della colonna sonora originale (a1, a5, a6, b5) mentre gli altri brani sebbene tutti presenti nel film sono nelle versioni cantate da Paul Frees uno dei più importanti doppiatori, caratteristi e narratori del cinema Americano del ventesimo secolo, mentre l'intera partitura del film è stata pubblicata su compact disc dalla Perseverance Records nel 2003. Durante il film questi brani, a parte "Over The Rainbow" che è suonato nei titoli di coda, accompagnavano la scena di un omicidio. Paul Frees canta dunque le canzoni imitando di volta in volta la voce di celebri artisti, cantanti e attori, con grande talento, personalità e un pizzico di divertente ironia. Una di queste è effettivamente da lui cantata nella colonna sonora del film: "Darketown Strutter’s Ball" dove imita la voce di Al Jolson. Il film, ambientato nel 1925 a parte piccoli anacronismi, probabilmente voluti deliberatamente, ha composizioni caratterizzate da jazz vecchio stile, musica per grande orchestra, melodia sinfonica e anche una certa sperimentalità; la si può intuire nell’ascolto dei brani composti dal Britannico Basil Kirchin e interpretate da eccellenti musicisti per l’occasione chiamati Dr. Phibes Clockwork Wizards.

Notes : it should first be specified that this album only contains four tracks of the original soundtrack (a1, a5, a6, b5), while the other seven tracks even though they were all present in the film, here are sung by Paul Frees, one of the most important voice actors, narrators and character actors of American cinema history in the twentieth century. The entire score of the film was released on compact disc by Perseverance Records in 2003. Throughout the film, these tunes, apart from "Over The Rainbow" which is instrumentally played over the end titles, accompanied the scene of a murder. Paul Frees sings so the songs simulating from time to time the voice of famous artists, singers and actors with great talent, personality and a bit of fun irony. One of them is effectively sung by Frees on the film soundtrack: "Darketown Strutter's Ball" in which he simulates the voice of Al Jolson. The story, set in 1925  aside from some anachronisms probably purposely wanted, features compositions characterized by old-fashioned jazz, big band music, symphonic melodies and even some experimentation, you can grasp it by the listening of the tracks by the British Basil Kirchin and performed by excellent musicians for the occasion called Dr. Phibes Clockwork Wizards.
