Description
This historic LP, the first-ever recording of Sir Arnold Bax’s huge Symphonic Variations for piano and orchestra of 1917-18, was issued in 1970 as Revolution Records RCF. 001. Noted British pianist Joyce Hatto is the soloist, and the Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by its then-permanent conductor, Vernon Handley, one of the leading interpreters of Bax’s orchestral music. When this LP appeared the work had not been heard for decades, and it ranks among Bax’s most significant utterances. Slight bending of the lower LH corner of the sleeve, but otherwise this is a very clean copy of this important release, with no obvious sign of having ever been played. This item will be despatched in a purpose-built LP mailer, with cardboard stiffeners.
