BBC Acetate disc: PEREZ PRADO Mambo Jambo / FRED KARNO radio play 78rpm 1950
Very rare 12-inch BBC acetate disc, date-stamped 1950 on one side.One side features a very early recording of 'Mambo Jambo' by Perez Prado!
The the other side contains some snippets of dialogue and music from what sounds like a radio play about the life of Fred Karno, who was an English theatre impresario of the British music hall. Among the comedians who worked for him were Charlie Chaplin and his understudy, Arthur Jefferson, who later adopted the name of Stan Laurel. The label has written on it: "Dub: Excerpts for final - Fred Karno".
Comes in plain brown thin card sleeve.
The disc plays with a fair amount of surface noise. There are some light/mild scuffs visible but no scratches as such. There are also some dust/mold deposits present; i have wiped it with a cloth and some water but not got all of it off, and i am not sure of the best way to clean these old 78 discs, so it would probably benefit from a professional clean, i'm sure it would be possible to get most of it removed.
