Description

NO RESERVE!

If you've been following my auctions, this is the last of three sets. After these, there are no more. I've been told to make space! :)

This is a set of the BBC 7" 33rpm audio sound effects records, numbering I think 1352 unique items in total (one thousand, three hundred and fifty two 7 inch records, spread across four plastic boxes, stored in order for the vast majority) PLUS 283 duplicates of the ECS series and five empty sleeves PLUS the October 1984 BBC catalogue in decent condition, to give you some hope of working out what is where! It's ex of Videosonics, the AV production company of North London, so was properly looked after and - after they went into storage - was stored for more than two decades in a dry, dark lock-up garage. There's no mouse chewing on the boxes or anything - these have been effectively timewarped bar a little dust.

While they were in use they were treated correctly - this was a pro audio house after all, not a kid with a Dansette and a ceramic cart! My understanding is they were played back on a Garrard 301 with a suitable arm - so top notch kit.

The series *were* bundled together with masking tape (along with the cardboard reference cards you can see) and most of that has been removed, but some still adheres - it'll wash off with soap and water I expect. 99% of the records are in the correct BBC branded poly outers (as in the photos) with maybe a half dozen in paper sleeves and two or three unsleeved (but in fairness, stashed between plastic sleeves so hardly in dire straits). They are a mixture of mono and stereo (being the red and purple labels respectively).

These are the in house BBC sfx that were used for The Archers, Play For Today, in fact *any* BBC Radio production, and a good number of their TV outputs too - as well as (I believe) samples used by the likes of Pink Floyd (but no I can't tell you which disc and which track!).

The boxes are labelled with series contained and disc count. Four boxes are lidded, the fifth is a plastic crate.

If you look for these discs on eBay they are typically sold at something around five pounds each, some going for as much as twice that. There's one and a half thousand of them here in total... so this is potentially a bargain.

Ideal for any sort of foley work, specialist record collectors, record dealers, amateur dramatics, audio librarians, SFX enthusiasts and similar.

NOTE: I say 1352 + 283 records - that's as many as I counted (and added up), please don't ask me to count twice! (The numbers per crate are in circles on the contents label...) There might be a very small variance on that - like maybe single figures. I also cannot attest that every series is complete - because I don't have a list of all the records they *ever* released for BBC SFX. If you were looking to start such a collection, this is a perfect place to kick off. Condition is listed as ex/ex but there may be exceptions to that - again, I'm not grading fifteen hundred records!! The boxes are stored two high which means all load bearing is done by the rigid plastic boxes, not the contents.

Just to repeat: this is the third and final set I have for sale. Two very happy buyers so far. No reserve, my wife needs them gone.

COLLECTION/DELIVERY: these are currently in my home (and away from light/heat) in RG27, which is just off the M3 J4a in NE Hampshire. I've got them listed as Collection Only but we can work something out (appropriately socially distanced etc.) if you're the winning bidder. It's four large ish office style storage boxes and a crate (which could be wrapped in cling film for transport in fairness), so the boot and back seat of a medium sized car. I'm WFH so pretty much any time is fine.

Thanks for looking, and happy bidding. And er... maybe clear some shelf space? :)
