Description

This is a rare BBC Transcription Disc, that I bought it about 10 years ago.

I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again:  Billed as 'a radio custard pie' this show ran for 8 years and starred Greame Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie, John 'Otto' Cleese, Jo Kendall and David Hatch (who later went on to produce the show). The show sprang from the undergraduate revues, with the pilot of the series being a recording of the West End show, Cambridge Circus, aired on the 30th December 1963. Cambridge Circus originated at the Cambridge University Footlights Club, and sprang from the revue entitled "A Clump of Plinths". This title may seem unlikely, but the first idea "You Can't Call a Show Cornflakes", is even worse!!! Luckily, by the time the show had transferred to the Edinburgh Fringe, it had attained the far more acceptable title, Cambridge Circus. The show was a liberal smattering of silly voices, awful puns, and mildly smutty humour, and was totally anarchic, with the audience controlling most of the show in later series. It is notable for the amount of talent present. Bill Oddie and Greame Garden wrote the scripts with contributions from the others, and this team later, with Tim Brook-Taylor were to form the Goodies on BBC TV, John Cleese was one of the founding members of Monty Python's Flying Circus, and is undoubtedly one of the best comedy writers ever (and I am using Fawlty Towers as exhibit A here, M'lud), and David Hatch has gone on to be Controller of Radio 2, Controller of Radio 4 and then the Managing Director of the BBC Network Radio.

This is Transcription Service issue numbers 7 and 8 and the disc has an expiry date of 31.7.79.  These are the Holy Grails of Transcription Discs as the series hasn't been commerically released in any substantial form, unlike nearly all the other main comedy series such as Hancock, Round The Horne and The Goon Show.

These are in mint condition and has only been played by myself a couple of times, and I suspect only half a dozen times at most ever and will probably be the best condition you are likely to ever find Transcription Discs in general and this show in particular.  

I am reluctantly thinning my collection due to running out of space, moving house, and trying to pay to decorate the new house (I am hoping that these discs will pay for the bathroom taps!) - and this is one of many that I will be listing on ebay over the coming months.  Please read the following before bidding.

As ebay 'improve' their service to a more structured format, some bidders make assumptions about an auction, so please read the following so you know what to expect from me.

Notes about postage:
I am based in the UK and the photo will be sent from there.
The postage costs are determined after the auction closes and depend on the service required and the final value of the item - I won't send unless it is covered by insurance.
My rate for one disc sent by standard UK recorded delivery is £4.50 with items shipped in record mailers, and are covered by Royal Mail insurance up to £39. 
For final values over £39, the only insured option is by Special Delivery and this is approximately £8.00 in the mailer, and insurance covers up to £500
I WILL SHIP WORLDWIDE.  For overseas shipping, the cost varies on destination and service.  If you are interested, please contact me in advance so I can advise on a cost.

Notes for after the auction closes:
After the close of the auction I will send out an invoice and appreciate payment within 2 working days.  One reminder will be sent if payment is not received, and if there is still no payment I will go through the ebay claim procedure.   Much as I would like to chat via email afterwards, this is generally not possible due to the large amount of photos I sell at a time, and I prefer to concentrate on answering questions about live auctions and getting the items shipped as quickly as possible once they sell.   If you make a payment instantly it may well be the first you hear from me is the disc arriving through your post box.   Please be assured this is not me being rude, just trying to be efficient!
