3 x BBC Transcription Service records covering 6 programmes (full series?) of Masters of the Late Renaissance introduced by the late Jeremy Noble. The expiry date stamped on all is 20/11/63 so must have been made prior to this date. There is no indication of conductor, venue or choir as far as I can tell. Catalogue numbers and titles are:-
104136 - The Christmas Story 104137 - Mirth and Melancholy 104253 - Lassus, the Cosmopolitan 104254 - Lassus, the Religious Visionary 104255 - The English Tradition 104256 - Palestrina, the Servant of St. Peter
I will not grade the records.. They came into my hands very grubby, very crackly and with a few pops where foreign objects had got into the groove. I have given them a quick clean with cleaning fluid, paying particular attention to the Palestrina side. Underneath the grime, the records are shiny with very few marks. On playing snippets of Palestrina, there is still a bit of crackle in the introduction but this gets less noticeable as the music starts. I would recommended further cleaning and perhaps after a few plays, quality will improve. This is no guarantee but as a collector of records myself, I have found that many records that have obviously not been played for many years just need a clean and a few spins with the needle in the groove to improve clarity. I HAVE NOT played these records throughout and as such they are sold as seen/described. No returns.. Sorry. This may be a unique (to the public at least) chance to buy these radio programmes on vinyl and unless I have been very lucky in the snippets I have played, they will not disappoint.
