I wish I could tell you this copy is mint minus, but I can't. The record came as part of a former DJs estate, and was found in a box jammed full of unsleeved mostly throwaway beater 45s. Right in the middle of the box was a short partial row of promos, also unsleeved, intermingled with the beaters.. and this was in amongst those. All the wadded and un-wadded newspaper filling the gaps is dated May, 1982, for what it's worth.
Why he was saving this box is quite beyond me, since all the other boxes are filled with really excellent condition items. But I'm glad he did. Otherwise this gem would most likely be in a landfill somewhere for just over twenty-four years now.
Condition: Considering this baby's plight, not too bad. There's some surface scratching consistant with what you'd expect to find on a record that was most likely fairly clean prior to being cast into a box of filthy junkers. There are also a few feelable scratches, at least two of which I would say were caused by mono needle drag. The others could be either needle related or grit caused. All the feelies (six that I easily caught) are on Side 2, except for a very tiny one on Side 1. Don't ask me why, but I get the feeling this record is something he brought home from the station for his kid. These scratches are totally inconsistant with the condition of all the other (sleeved) 45s that are in this collection. Again, for what that's worth.
Playability: The EP plays amazingly well -- on a MONO player. There are no skips, and any tics are only minimally intrusive.. and not noticable during musical passages. I don't believe I'd want to listen to it on a stereo though. There is also a very very slight warp to the record that DNAP.
This EP is an absolute must for Beach Boys / Brian Wilson completists!
