Important General Information

This and upcoming auctions of vintage LPs, EPs and select 45s are a continuation of my earlier offerings of  2001.  Most of the pieces are from my personal collection of over 45 years of accumulation.  The music genres are largely rock, psych, garage, blues and progressive material. Some albums retain their original shrink wrap.  Most contain any and all inserts that were used in packaging and have their original inner sleeves.

The material is graded conservatively using Jerry Osborn’s grading criteria, with one exception.  I  play grade each piece ( except 45s ) in addition to visually grading the items under proper lighting.  Each album offered has been converted to digital format and put into my library.  That is why I’ve play graded each one.  I use high end audio equipment while doing the conversions.  The amplifier is a Nakamichi Receiver 3,  the turntable is a Denon DP-45F and the cartridge used is a Audiotecnica Dual Moving Magnetic unit.  It tracks at .75 grams of pressure to the vinyl.

GRADING:   BY COVER/SLEEVE FIRST, THEN VINYL. (EG. NM/VG+ )

COMMENTS:

The Beach Boys are an American rock band. Formed in 1961, the group gained popularity for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a California youth culture of cars and surfing. Brian Wilson's growing creative ambitions later transformed them into a more artistically innovative group that earned critical praise and influenced many later musicians. The group initially comprised singer-musician-composer Brian Wilson, his brothers, Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. This core quintet, along with early member David Marks and later bandmate Bruce Johnston, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 1988. The Beach Boys have often been called "America's Band", and Allmusic.com has stated that "the band's unerring ability... made them America's first, best rock band." The group has had thirty-six U.S. Top 40 hits (the most of any U.S. rock band) and fifty-six Hot 100 hits, including four number one singles. Rolling Stone magazine listed The Beach Boys as one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. According to Billboard, in terms of singles and album sales, The Beach Boys are the No. 1 selling American band of all time.

Little Deuce Coupe is The Beach Boys' fourth album, and third overall LP release in 1963. Almost unintentionally, the album was rush-recorded and compiled when leader Brian Wilson sought to protect his band.  Little Deuce Coupe hit #4 in the US during a 46 week chart stay.  Little Deuce Coupe became a big hit, reaching #4 in the US, and eventually going platinum. Because it mostly deals with cars as a subject matter (save "Be True to Your School", although even that has a mention of cruising), some observers have retroactively called Little Deuce Coupe an early rock example of what would become known as the concept album.  For an album recorded so quickly, the quality was amazingly high. In particular, Brian Wilson's songs and their arrangements were becoming more and more dazzling and complex, specifically "No-Go Showboat" and "Custom Machine".

CONDITION:

Yet another top quality jacket suitable for framing!  This is the 4th Capital release from the band.  Although the shrink-wrap is missing, it appears as if it hasn’t been off of the cover for very long.  The spine and the seams are as new.  The 32 Ford Vickie is an awesome custom!  The vinyl, although not quite a near mint grade, is close to it.  Only a few sliders and topical scuffs can be viewed under light.  Play-back  was very clean.  NM/VG++
