Month and year of release are March 1963. This is a listing for a rare test pressing of the Beach Boys first 45 to chart in the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 Pop charts. The record visually and play grades in beautiful near mint condition and is made of vinyl and not styrene. The number of this record is PRO-6924-F-1 which is hand etched in the dead wax of both sides. "Mastered by Capitol" is machine stamped in the dead wax of both sides in all upper case letters. The B side does not play Shut Down, as the commercial release did Capitol 4832 did but rather is a duplication of the A side with Surfin' U.S.A. again. There is a sticker on the A side that states "3/63." This sticker was undoubtedly placed on the record before the writing was done since the upper right tail-end of the diagonal slash separating the month from the year extended itself onto the label itself to the extent of about a fraction of one millimeter. The time listed on the commercial release is stated as 2:25 whereas this test pressing copy indicates 2:27. I have provided a sound byte of most of one side to enable you, the listener, the opportunity to hear for yourself and also, as well as can be done online, evaluate the play grade. Both sides sound and play approximately the same. The labels are white and slick. There is the very slightest degree of soiling that is difficult to see in images and to the naked eye as well. This should not be sufficient enough to disappoint those who are mint fanatics (as I have been known to be!). This is an opportunity to own a serious rare Beach Boys collectible. This test pressing was likely released in the early 1970's. It has the raised ribbed grooves that appear in the record's dead wax. I do not believe the Capitol started to use this ribbing process until the late 1960's. Don't let this gem pass you by!
