Description
Here’s one of there rarest Beach Boys 45s out there. This is an original copy of the Beach Boys’ first single on the X label, number 301, “Surfin’” with “Luau” on the flip. The origin of this record is somewhat clouded in obscurity. I’ve heard stories ranging from the Candix label pressing these up on the sly, to avoid having to pay a record pressing plant… to the idea that Murry Wilson had these pressed up himself when Candix records went bankrupt, and was unable to supply copies of the 45 to be sold at the Boys’ earliest concerts. At any rate, this copy grades in the VG+ range… however, it has a very small spot of heat damage in the trail-on that does NOT extend into the area where the music exists. It plays fine with a normal tracking weight of 1.5 grams. The A side label is nice and clean, the flip has a piece of tape. Very hard record to find! x301
