This auction is for an original copy of the single that started it all! This is an original orange 'Scroll' Polydor pressing of the Tony Sheridan single 'My Bonnie' / 'The Saint's'.

This single was issued in Germany in late 1961 / early 1962 whilst the Beatles were in Hamburg playing the Top Ten club. Tony Sheridan, a fellow performer in Hamburg at the Top Ten club was a fan, and also quite a big name in Germany. When he was asked to record some music for the Polydor label he recruited the Beatles to be his backing band.

The result was this - the first commercial single ever to be released that featured the Beatles! Although one story goes that 'The Beat Brothers' was used as a generic name by Sheridan for whatever band was backing him at the time, the other (and more well known story) was that the label didn't like their name and so it was changed. This was because 'Beatles' sounded too much like 'Pedles', German plural slang for the male genitals.

Of course, back at the beginning of 1962, this single really didn't sell very well at all and even then only in Germany. Some copies were imported into the UK, especially in Liverpool where Beatle fans were trying to get copies - it's said that someone went into NEMS and asked Brian Epstein if he had a copy of this single. It was this that spurred Brian to check them out in the Cavern. And the rest is history!

So this is your chance to own a piece of Beatles history. The reissues that credit these songs as 'THE BEATLES (Featuring Tony Sheridan)' are everywhere as the songs were hastily repackaged and sold during the height of Beatlemania to fully capitalise on the band's success. However, these original copies that credit the group as 'The Beat Brothers' are extremely difficult to find!!

Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG+

The playing surface has a lovely, crisp shine to it and just a fair amount of very light, fine scuff marks - nothing at all serious, though!
.

Labels : EX

The labels are looking very nice! The side A label has a name written in pencil at the top right and '(The Beatles' written in next to the 'Beat Brothers' credit but, apart from that, the labels are looking excellent!
