Please be aware that all records are VISUALLY graded only - all grades are given based on how they appear under my desk lamp - since I do not own a record player. I cannot guarantee that discs will be click and skip free, although any marks and scratches that might possibly cause such problems will be highlighted clearly in the description.

This auction is for an extremely rare and 100% authentic and genuine Version 1 pressing of the Beatles US LP 'Introducing the Beatles' on the VeeJay. Not only that, but this is the very rare Monarch variation that uses the 45-sized labels of the disc!!

The story behind Introducing the Beatles is very interesting and is worth a read. It can be found on it's Wikipedia page.

Quoting from Wikipedia:
"On 16 January 1964, less than a week after Introducing... The Beatles was released, Vee-Jay was served with a restraining order stopping further distribution. Beechwood Music, Inc., Capitol Records' publishing subsidiary, owned the American publishing rights to "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You", and because the two songs had not yet been officially released in the US, Beechwood refused to issue a license for Vee-Jay to release them.[2] Approximately 80,000 copies of Introducing... The Beatles had been released with the two songs on them, with only 2,000 or so in stereo."

Monarch Records Mfg. Co. in California were one of the main manufacturers of Introducing the Beatles and, during initial production of this album, they ran out of LP sized labels. Not wanting any reason to slow up on production the decision was made to run a small number of copies off using smaller labels that were intended for single releases. This was only done for a short time before the LP sized labels were reintroduced and, today, copies with the smaller labels (especially the Version 1 presses) are incredibly difficult to find!

Introducing the Beatles is one of the most counterfeited LPs in music history but this is a 100% authentic, genuine pressing.

Nearly every fake version 1 was printed as stereo whereas most mono version 1 copies are genuine. This copy has the right colour hue, it has George's shadow, it has the 1/4" internal overflaps at the top and bottom of the mouth (on fakes this overflap is much longer) and the back passes the 'Honey' test (fakes have a chunk of the H in Honey missing). The deadwax on this particular pressing is dead on 1" due to the smaller labels being used, but even then the deadwax on fake presses is much bigger. The deadwax also features the 'Audiomatrix' machine stamp which, again, is never found on a counterfeit pressing and the credit 'The Beatles' is above the spindlehole. On every fake this credit is below the spindlehole!

The deadwax carries the circled MR stamp, indicating that this copy was manufactured at Monarch Records Mfg. Co. in California and it's Spizer / Cox unique identification number is VJ 1062 (1).MR2

The cover is showing a fair amount of wear and tear, but overall is holding okay. The front has a nice, natural colour to it but has a fair amount of wear over the group along with some ring wear. There's a few small little dirt spots just under the VeeJay logo on the left. There's some cellotape marking in the middle of the mouth edge, top right corner, top left corner and there's cellotape holding the top and bottom seams. It looks like the top and bottom seams have completely split and were subsequantly repaired using cellotape. The spine has wear and mostly unlegible, but hasn't really torn or split. Back cover has yellowed slightly and is showing some wear over the black areas. There's yellow tape marks top left, middle left, bottom right, and along the bottom and top seams. The name, address and phone number of it's previous owner, Diane Elder, is written along the top. Diane Duphiney appears to have gotten married to a Mr. Elder when she had this album as her maiden name was scribbled out and 'Elder' written above it. Like I say, showing its age and is looking a little fragile, but overall is looking okay.   Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : POOR/FAIR

The playing surface has a lot of scuffing all over the playing surface along with some heavier marks, scuffs and scratches. Should be considered as a collection filler.

The labels are clean with clear text but both are showing some wear and rubbing along with some spindlewear and a little whitening around the centrehole.
