Description
The Beatles - 'Beatles For Sale' E.P. GEP 8931
The Beatles incredibly rare 1965 UK SOLID CENTER FACTORY SAMPLE DEMO pressing of the 'Beatles For Sale' E.P. Released on the 6th April 1965, this pressing is actually undocumented in the 'UK Rare Record Price Guide'.
Having collected Beatles vinyl for many years now I can say for certain that this is not an EMI pressing but is some form of contract pressing. I am not able to identify for certain which record company produced it but other than the initial appearance of the labels it is clearly NOT from EMI. The weight of the vinyl is not in keeping with EMI, there is no embossed tax code and the labels on close inspection are simply far too glossy for an EMI issue. As mentioned above this is some form of undocumented contract variation which which would have had an incredibly small pressing run.
These initial early factory sample pressings would have usually been given out to reviewers, radio stations or used as quality control within the pressing plant. Both labels feature the 'Sold in the UK....' statement and have the 'Parlophone Co.Ltd' rim print. The vinyl also features some of the very earliest possible matrix numbers ending with 1R and 1G. The vinyl is housed within a cover which appears to be a later version. It is printed on a thiner card and has two rear flipbacks rather than three. It may be a later replacement or could simply be correct cover for this rare contract variation but I cannot say for certain which.
The Matrix numbers are:
Side 1. 7TCE 860-2 1 R KT
Side 2. 7TCE 861-3 1 G KT
The vinyl is in EXCELLENT condition. Both sides of the vinyl have been play tested with NO faults, just the very lightest of crackle in places.
The label on side one is in EXCELLENT condition with one minor mark (see pic). The label on side two is in EXCELLENT+ condition.
The sleeve is in EXCELLENT+ condition.
