This auction is for an original, mono, 1st pressing copy of the Beatles legendary LP, The White Album. This is the rare and collectible 'wide spine' variation of the sleeve.
Comes with its original black sugar paper inner sleeves and the four portraits but is lacking the poster.
This was the last original Beatles' album to have a full mono mix (Yellow Submarine was just a stereo fold-down into mono). Subsequantly most of the tracks have both subtle and blatant differences to their stereo counterparts. A website that details some of these differences can be found HERE. Beatle completists love the mono white album because of these differences, and as the mono pressing sold so poorly back in 1968 demand for them today is extremely high!
By 1968 mono was pretty much a dead format. Stereo records coming down in price to be the same as their mono counterparts along with the price of stereo record players drastically dropping meant that everybody bought stereo and the mono copies were left on the shelf. Mono sales dropped so much that by 1969 it was discontinued completely as a format across all labels. Because of this, stereo copies of this album far outsold the mono copies!

The top-opening cover is holding up okay but is showing its age. The cover as a whole is holding up fine with no tears or splits and just has the usual light creasing, rubbing and disc impression. The number on the front is printed nice and clearly and the wide spine is uncrushed. All the seams are holding tight and there's no splits or damage. The initials 'J.S.' have been written inside on the right side of the gatefold and the name Ian Armstrong has been written at the top left. The album has gone a light cream colour over time (something these album covers often did). Check out the photos above. Overall, the cover isn't looking bad at all, a decent example of this rare, collectible variation! Inner Sleeves : VG+
Both original sugar paper black inner sleeves are included and are holding up well. There's no splits or tears in the seams and both have some creasing as you can see in the photos above. One of the inner sleeves has some small tears around the label window. Photos : FAIR
All four photos are included. They look like they've been mounted in a scrapbook or stuck up on the wall as they all have cellotape marks at the top and bottom. The Ringo and John photos have been torn off at the top as you can see in the photos above. Not the best examples, but included to keep the set together. Disc 1 (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG+
The playing surface has a lovely, crisp shine to it and has a fair amount of light, faint little scuffs along with some slightly heavier looking marks. Nothing serious, though.
.
Disc 2, again, has a crisp shine to it has a fair amount of light scuffs along with some slightly heavier looking scuffs. Everso slightly downgraded as there seem to be a few more of these slightly heavier scuffs but, again, there's nothing I can see that're that serious. Looking nice overall! Disc 1 Labels : EX
The labels are looking very nice with no writing, tears, stickers etc. Just some light spindlewear and a touch of whitening around the centrehole. Nice labels!
.
Again, the labels are looking really, really nice! No wear, rubbing, writing etc, just a very light, small amount of spindlewear and pretty much no whitening around the centrehole. Nice labels! Terms and Conditions + Shipping Information
