Description

After 20 years of collecting, the time has come for me to sell my Beatles collection and let other collectors appreciate some of the records and memorabilia I've accumilated over the years. Please check out my other listings and remember to save me as a favourite seller, as every week I'll be listing more and more increasingly rare, collectible and desirable Beatles records!

Please be aware that all records are VISUALLY graded only - all grades are given based on how they appear under my desk lamp - since I do not own a record player. I cannot guarantee that discs will be click and skip free, although any marks and scratches that might possibly cause such problems will be highlighted clearly in the description.

This auction is for a very rare Factory Sample copy of the legendary Beatles LP 'Abbey Road' on the UK dark Apple label!

I've heard two stories as to what the Factory Sample sticker was used for. The first was that the sticker was used by factories when employees wanted to buy a copy direct using their discount. The sticker was stuck onto the label so that the worker couldn't then go out and re-sell it at full price.

The second story is that after the promotional copies were run and the normal stock labels were loaded into the pressing machines, copies were occasionally taken from the production line, issued a Factory Sample sticker and then sent for quality control.

Whatever the reasoning behind the sticker, they're still very highly collectible and Beatle records that carry the sticker only very seldomly come up for sale!

The cover is holding alright but is showing some general, light wear and tear. The front seems to have lost a little of its colour and has a very slight hint of blue hue. There's a little laminate dirt buildup and some disc impression along with some creasing in the laminate around the edges. There's some laminate bubbling down the spine edge. Top and bottom seams are holding up okay. Spine has split in the middle about 2 ior so inches. Back has a lot less dirt buildup on the laminate (there is still a little, though) with some light disc impression and laminate creases around the edges. the back also seems to have a very slight hint of blue hue to it. 'Her Majesty' is not credited.   Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : POOR

The playing surface, on the whole, has a fair amount of scuffing on the playing surface with some slightly heavier marks. One side 2 there are some particularly bad looking marks as I've shown in the photo above. The marks are pretty deep and would certainly affect play. There's also a heavy scuffmark at the 7 o'clock position and some light scratching around the opening track at the 4 o'clock position. I'm not selling this as a play copy, just purely as a very rare Factory Sample issue.

The labels are looking really nice with only a little, light spindlewear and just a touch of whitening around the centrehole. The side 2 label has a small tear at the 4 o'clock position as you can see in the photo above..
