This auction is for a rare, original 1st pressing copy of the Beatles legendary swansong LP, Abbey Road. This copy features the misaligned Apple logo on the back cover and also omits 'Her Majesty' on both the label and the cover. Not only that, but this copy carries the very rare YEX 749 A-3U matrix on side 1 which s something that's usually only seen on the original yellow / black Parlophone export presses of this album!
When this LP was initially released the song 'Her Majesty' was originally going to be placed in the final medley on Abbey Road. It was originally going to be placed between Mean Mr. Mustard and Polythene Pam (which is why the final note is missing. It was embedded in the beginning of PP). However, when it was felt that it didn't fit it was requested that the song was cut from the mix and destroyed. At the time there was an unwritten policy in EMI that absolutely nothing that had been recorded by the Beatles was to be destroyed, so the tape editor edited the recording of Her Majesty from the mix and taped it to the end of the reel. However, this clip was seemingly forgotten about and was not removed when the final tape was sent out to be pressed onto vinyl, and it was only after it had been pressed up and covers designed that it was discovered that this song was still on the album. As it was this song had not been copyrighted it was completely open to anyone claiming it as their own, or claim royalties from it, and so it was very hastily added to the label and given a full credit.
But, doubled with this is the highly collectible 'Misaligned' Apple cover. When this LP was initially released the back cover had the Apple logo right up hard against the mouth edge. This was very soon reset to align up with the track listing and 'Apple Records' title. The Apple logo was part of the artwork, and so when it was aligned it cut off about 1/2" of the girl to the right of the cover, and also brought the spots at the top left fully into view.

The cover is looking pretty good! The front cover is clean with just a little laminate wear and buildup, and a light disc impression. There are a couple lof little creases around the edges and there's a thin band of discolouration running down the left edge. Might be a printers erro but mostly like a slight fade caused by exposure to sunlight, perhaps. Top and bottom seams are both holding tightly. Spine is holding with all text fully legible, but there is a small split in the middle that looks to be just over an inch or so long. Back cover is clean with light disc impression and laminate wear. Small creases around the edges here and there and a thin band of discolouration down the right side. Overall, looking pretty good!

The playing surface has a really sharp, crisp shine to it and has a fair amount of light, very faint little scuffs here and there. Nothing at all serious looking. Looking pretty good!

The labels are clean with just a little light but noticeable spindlewear and a little whitening around the centrehole.
