Beatles '65 was released December 15, 1964, just in time for the Christmas market to take it straight from number 98 upon entering the Billboard album chart to Number one--where it remained for 9 weeks, beginning on January 9, 1965.
This album contains the ground-breaking intentional use of feedback on the Intro to "I Feel Fine". Geoff Emerick, the recording engineer on that session explained that John had leaned his guitar against an amp, but neglected to turn down the volume of the pickup. Just at that moment Paul plucked a low "A" on his bass and from across the room the sound waves set John's guitar feeding back. "What the bloody hell was that?" Emerick exclaimed to Norman Smith, first engineer at the time of recording "Eight Days A Week"...From there, Lennon learned to harness the sound for the intentional intro when the Beatles recorded "I Feel Fine" on October 18th 1964. "Sounds a bit like an electric razor, doesn't it?" said John, "so we left it in."
**Album cover is VG, with evidence of signature, "John Lennon XX" beside Lennon's photo under an umbrella on the front cover. (I have no documentation or proof of authenticity. This cover hung on the wall of a record store in L.A. until store closed..hence the writing, in blue pen is faded.) **
Shelf wear is not too bad, as seen in photo. Seams are a bit crumbly -- no serious splits. There's a dent on the top edge and the usual rounded corners.
Vinyl grades VG+ or better with high gloss on the colorband labels and most of the playing surface -- a couple of scratches are visible on each side, but barely audible upon playing.
