THE BEATLES - ABBEY ROAD

1969 UK STEREO 12" LP Apple PCS 7088

Matrix Numbers : Side 1  YEX 749 - 2, stampers 5, M0T;  Side 2  YEX 750 - 1, stampers 9, ARR

A truly excellent+ copy of this 1969 1st press classic complete with the infamous misaligned apple, no "HER MAJESTY" on

either the side 2 label or listed on the outer sleeve, and all with superb audio quality

Just two weeks ago I sold a similar "misaligned apple" copy on ebay for £49 - this one is in even better condition!!

Both sides of the vinyl (completely flat, by the way) have retained virtually all of their original sheen and have a great appearance. Looking closely under a halogen right, and tilted at the right angle, there are a number of wispy hairlines in evidence, however, but I suspect that these are just paper scuffs caused by the inner sleeve. Apart from a small, light scuff (not immediately obvious) on the intro to side 2 and a single 3cm pencil line thin and "non-feelable" hairline, also on side 2, there are no distinguishable flaws at all in normal daylight and even under a bright light you need to look hard. Truly excellent+ condition.

The laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is also in excellent condition, with original, rich and vibrant "as new" colouring fully intact. There is no scuffing or creasing on any of the edges, the corners are well defined, and the spine is flawless. There is some very slight rubbing on the top and bottom corners on the right side of the cover and a small half centimetre "nick" in the middle of the front opening edge (see photo). There are also 4 very small nicks on the reverse side adjacent to the opening edge, revealing 4 white marks each the size of a large dot - virtually insignificant but nonetheless noticeable. None of these blemishes are major and only minimally detract from the overall impressive appearance and condition of this iconic cover.

The quality of the audio is superb. No skips (obviously), no pops or clicks, no distortion - virtually flawless. I won't deny that if you listen hard you might just detect the odd nanosecond of background static but even brand new records are prone to that. You will need to go a long way to find better sound reproduction on vinyl than this. Sit back and enjoy each timeless classic.

Each label is excellent+. Look closely under a bright light and you can just detect a couple of very faint, small spindle traces adjacent to the centre hole on each side. Apart from that...perfect!

The track listing is :

Side 1:

1. COME TOGETHER

2. SOMETHING

3. MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER

4. OH! DARLING

5. OCTOPUS'S GARDEN

6. I WANT YOU (She's so heavy)

Side 2 :

1. HERE COMES THE SUN

2. BECAUSE

3. YOU NEVER GIVE ME YOUR MONEY

4. SUN KING

5. MEAN MR MUSTARD

6. POLYTHEBE PAM

7. SHE CAME IN THROUGH THE BATHROOM WINDOW

8. GOLDEN SLUMBERS

9. CARRY THAT WEIGHT

10. THE END

11. HER MAJESTY (but not listed on either of the side 2 label or the outer sleeve track listing)

Comes complete with original, standard white "MADE IN ENGLAND" inner sleeve with "PATENT NO. 1,125,555" - no splits but a little creased towards the corners and a 2cm tear at the middle of the top front edge.

Considering it's 46 year antiquity this classic Beatles album remains in true "excellent+" overall condition and each timeless track remains a joy to listen to. I'm sure that many sellers would grade this copy as "near mint".

IF THIS ITEM INTERESTS YOU THEN YOU MAY LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK AT MY OTHER 60's/70'S VINYL OFFERINGS ALSO CURRENTLY ON EBAY : SOME REAL RARITIES!

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 45 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. I worked in IT for 22 years before doing a complete career change to teach Maths in a high school at the ripe old age of 45 - probably the best career move that I ever made. I took great joy in indulging the "kids" in my eclectic collection of 60's and 70's vinyl, even once dedicating a whole PSE lesson to the Genesis classic "Foxtrot".  But now I am retired and a combination of space requirements and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller, and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard
