THE BEATLES - ABBEY ROAD
1969 UK STEREO 12" LP Parlophone PCS 7088
Matrix Numbers : Side 1 YEX 749 - 2, stampers 4, 0M0; Side 2 YEX 750 - 1, stampers 4, MAH
An excellent copy of this 1969 1st press classic complete with the infamous misaligned apple, no "HER MAJESTY" on
either the side 2 label or listed on the outer sleeve, and great audio
Both sides of the vinyl (completely flat, by the way) have retained virtually all of their original sheen and have a great appearance. Looking closely under a halogen right, and tilted at the right angle, there are a number of wispy hairlines in evidence, however, but I suspect that these are just paper scuffs caused by the inner sleeve. There are no distinguishable flaws at all in normal daylight and even under a bright light you need to look hard. Truly excellent condition.
The laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is also in excellent condition, with original, vibrant colouring fully intact. There is no scuffing or creasing, the corners are well defined, and the spine is virtually flawless, but there is a mild crease towards the right hand bottom corner (see photo) and some very slight laminate lifting towards the top left front side and the centre opening front side. On the reverse side there is also some light laminate lifting adjacent to the spine and also towards the top left corner, and a mild crease towards the bottom left hand corner (see photo). None of these blemishes are major and only minimally detract from the overall impressive appearance and condition of this iconic cover.
The quality of the audio is excellent. No skips (obviously) but there is some very light background crackle, most noticeable at the beginning of each side. For 95% of the audio it is not noticeable at all and even the light static that is present only marginally detracts from the great overall sound quality.
Each label is excellent+. Look closely under a bright light and you can just detect two very faint, small spindle traces adjacent to the centre hole on each side. Apart from that...perfect!
The track listing is :
Side 1:
1. COME TOGETHER
2. SOMETHING
3. MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER
4. OH! DARLING
5. OCTOPUS'S GARDEN
6. I WANT YOU (She's so heavy)
Side 2 :
1. HERE COMES THE SUN
2. BECAUSE
3. YOU NEVER GIVE ME YOUR MONEY
4. SUN KING
5. MEAN MR MUSTARD
6. POLYTHEBE PAM
7. SHE CAME IN THROUGH THE BATHROOM WINDOW
8. GOLDEN SLUMBERS
9. CARRY THAT WEIGHT
10. THE END
11. HER MAJESTY (but not listed on either of the side 2 label or the outer sleeve track listing)
Comes complete with original, standard white "MADE IN ENGLAND" inner sleeve with "PATENT NO. 1,125,555" - no tears or splits - again, excellent.
Considering it's 46 year antiquity this classic Beatles album remains in true "excellent" overall condition and each timeless track remains a joy to listen to.
IF THIS ITEM INTERESTS YOU THEN YOU MAY LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK AT MY OTHER 60's/70'S VINYL OFFERINGS ALSO CURRENTLY ON EBAY : SOME REAL RARITIES!
If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.
A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 45 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. I worked in IT for 22 years before doing a complete career change to teach Maths in a high school at the ripe old age of 45 - probably the best career move that I ever made. I took great joy in indulging the "kids" in my eclectic collection of 60's and 70's vinyl, even once dedicating a whole PSE lesson to the Genesis classic "Foxtrot". But now I am retired and a combination of space requirements and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.
My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller, and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy.
On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard
