BEATLES ACETATE, John Lennon Raps on Ronnie Hawkins 7" metal April & Blackwood

Probably over 25 years or so ago I went to a record collectors convention in NYC as I did many times. It was a vinyl lovers paradise. I would thumb through thousands upon thousands of records seeking out gems. On this particular day I took along a box of collectible records that were not in my venue but were of some value. 

My specialty was The Beatles & Elvis, how stereotypical! Still if I liked something I bought it so I have a wide variety of items but back to the point. 

I came across a table with a guy who had several (rare at the time, prior to internet) Beatles records. I always brought money and a box of records as trade bait. Hanging on this guys wall was a 7 inch small hole Acetate by APRIL AND BLACKWOOD with the hand written title on one side "John O Lennon raps on Ronnie Hawkins" on the other side "John O Lennon on Ronnie Hawkins". I asked how much and he gave me some crazy number and I almost walked away. I then asked if he was into trades and he asked what I had? I handed over my box. 

He went through the box and picked out an old Motown album by Mary Wells called Bye Bye Baby. He looked at the record and asked if I would be interested in doing a one for one trade. Of course I did, we exchanged disks and I was on my way. Upon arrival at home I put the 7 inch acetate on the turn table and cued it up at 45 RPM but it was too fast. I then set it to 33 and it played fine. It was John Lennon talking about a new record by Ronnie Hawkins called Down In The Alley. It was all talk, one side about a minute or so long while the other side is very short, perhaps 10 - 15 seconds. I have had this record squirreled away for years and now that I am retired I am thinking of selling some of my stuff to fund my new hobby, small import sports cars. 

BTW, did you know that Ronnie Hawkins was the person who put the group (The Band) together. He did is long before Bob Dylan. They were the same group but Ronnie named them the HAWKS. I know they made a 45 with these same cuts on them and they are pretty scarce. Here is a chance to own some real John Lennon history. I am pretty sure you will not find another. Condition of this disk is excellent, I would call it near mint since I played it a couple of times. The blemishes shown in photos are from the glass on my scanner, note they are in the same place on both sides. Shipment will be in a well protected container. Payment due within 3 days of auction end.
