In 1963, way before American teenagers (like me) even heard of The Beatles, Capitol of Canada released five single 45s. Each had a five-digit catalog number beginning with 72.
Because the earliest ones were pressed in limited quantities, and because of their place in music history, these five records in the 1963 “72000 series” are today considered some of the most valuable Beatles discs!

LOVE ME DO / P.S. I LOVE YOU
A magnificent copy of this first Beatles single release! As you probably know, the A-side features Ringo on drums. Producer George Martin replaced him with a session drummer on the version recorded a week later and released to the rest of the world. Ringo never forgave him. But his work is preserved on this disc, which has no markings whatsoever. And the audio quality is as great as the label. The hand-etched matrix number is 7XCE 17144-7 on the A-side and 7XCE 17145-6 on the B-side.
PLEASE PLEASE ME / ASK ME WHY
The sound on this disc is as clean as they come! There’s very minor wear, with a small written name on the B-side and a number sticker on the A-side that the new owner might elect to remove.

Another Near Mint disc in this exciting collection! It looks and sounds like it was just brought back from the record store!
SHE LOVES YOU / I’LL GET YOU
Capitol 72125 was initially pressed in September 1963, but generated little interest. A second pressing was made in December, and this is the one you’re bidding on—note the -2 on the A-side matrix number. “She Loves You” went to Number One in Canada and “broke” the group out nationally. The disc itself is quite flawless.
ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN / PLEASE MR. POSTMAN
This First Pressing was the fifth and final Beatles single to be issued by Capitol Canada in 1963…before any Capitol record came out in the U.S. It is an exquisite, Near Mint copy.
