BEATLES And FRANK IFIELD ON STAGE - JOLLY WHAT! - LP 1st 1964 RARE STEREO

A very rare 100%-guaranteed original STEREO album on Vee-Jay label. This album was the last one on Vee-Jay label before they lost the publishing rights. Any version of the Vee-Jay albums is hard to find. But this one is even rarer due to its very poor sales.. coupled with the fact that Mono was the standard format at the time when STEREO was almost unheard of. One doesn't need rocket science to figure out just how rare this STEREO version is, especially in this condition. Furthermore, what makes this LP extra special is that this is the first copy that I've come across with a date of "1-26-64" (pre-dating the official release date of 2-26-1964) etched on the run-out groove.

This album features an artist's impression of a man with a Beatle haircut supporting a handlebar moustache and holding a pair of spectacles. Curiously enough, despite the "On Stage" album title, all the twelve songs are studio recordings. The only possible reason for naming the album "On Stage" is that the group and Frank Ifield had appeared in the same concert bill in December 1962. The album has black and silver label with no colourband. The front cover has purple/dark blue background with spine printing. The label bears the very large "VJ" logo with left-justified song credits, all in silver prints. This album was released with three different label styles - "all Black VJ label with silver prints", "Black label with Colourband plus Oval logo" and "Colourband and Brackets label".

Rare items are bound to get counterfeited, this album is no exception. Fortunately, there are tell-tale signs to identify a genuine copy from a counterfeit one:

Cover :
1. The original has dark purple/blueish coloured sleeve, whereas a fake copy has the front cover bearing jet black background.
2. The original has the complete "VJS 1085" and "Jolly What! The Beatles & Frank IField" printed fon the spine (rom left to right with the front cover held face up), whereas a fake copy has no printing (or no album title) on the spine.

Label :
1. In the case of the "all Black VJ label with silver prints" version, the original label has large "VJ" with no brackets at all, whereas a fake copy has "VJ" bracketted. During the 1960's, Vee-Jay never released a "large brackets" version of an all-black label.
2. The original has "The Beatles" printed above the spindle hole, whereas a fake copy has it printed below the spindle hole.

Run-out Groove :
1. The original has the exact hand-scratched matrix number in the format mentioned below.

This album is guaranteed to be 100% genuine.

Album's weight (without packaging) : 320 grams

Cover - The blueish colour of the front cover signifies its 100% authenticity.. very thick cover with straight opening edges with no feathering whatsoever.. Wear on the top-left edge caused by brittle surface (due to age) and minor storage wear on the bottom edge.. Small and faint white patch on the top right and extremely faint and partial record impression.

The front cover is graded Excellent+++.
- The white rear cover still retains its original bright colour.. super clean.. graded Near Mint.
- The top edge is graded Very Good.. would've been graded strong Excellent+++ if not for the said blemish.
- The Bottom edge is graded Excellent.
- The opening edges are graded Excellent+++.

Overall, the cover is still in remarkable condition apart from the blemishes mentioned above, considering that it's 44 years old !

Spine - The "VJS 1085", "Jolly What! The Beatles & Frank IField" text is clearly printed on the spine, signifying its 100% authenticity.. Superb condition with just a few and minor creases, presence of one small white dot.. graded Excellent+++.

Labels - Superb condition.. Large VJ logo on all back labels with silver prints.. left justified artist-only credits.. the side 1 is estimated to have about two spindle marks and side 2 about 5 .. graded strong Excellent+++ to Near Mint.

Vinyl - Very thick vinyl.. still retains its gloss and shine.. would've been close to perfect if not for some 3-4 non-sounding and faint small cartrige marks on side 2.. The Side 1 is graded Near Mint and Side 2 Excellent visually. Superb sound quality, just faint background statics on side 2 and two gentle pops on an empty groove (between Sides 2 and 3).. plays superbly.. graded Excellent+++ to Near Mint aurally.

Inner Sleeve - Original company's plain white die-cut inner sleeve.. discoloration due to age.. graded Very Good.
