JOHN LENNON
"pop profile"
bbc 7" transcription disc
This is an amazing piece of BEATLES pop history!
On the 30th November 1965, BBC DJ and Presenter (and friend of the Beatles) Brian Matthew visited the NEMS offices to record an interview with John Lennon for the BBC's Transcription Service. The recordings from this arm of the BBC would, generally, be sent out to other radio stations for transmission, often overseas.
'Pop Profile' was a programme exclusively produced for the BBC's Transcription service and this particular interview was never aired in Britain.
The interview was 9 minutes long and in it Matthew asked Lennon questions such as: "Do you have any kind of political leanings at all?" to which John replied "Yeah, I have, you know, but I can never place what they are. You know, I can go on about it."
and, later: "You don’t fit into any party line." John: "There's not, not any party line that I've heard of yet. I don't object to people inheriting money or having a big lot of money, I never did, but I do object to people being stoney broke and starving".
He talks about his house, his cars and his lifestyle. (and Pete Asher does his thing in similar style on the other side!)
This is a fascinating piece of history!
BUT, now is the time to point out that this is not one of several pirate copies that were around twenty years or so ago. These were pressed on modern thin plastic with photocopied lables. I am sorry for anyone who has paid a lot of money for one of these copies, I have seen several go on sale recently.
This is an absolutely genuine original made 41 years ago. I can guarantee this for several reasons. Firstly, it has a correct pressed matrix number (see pictures), it has the serrated 'non-slip' ring around the edge of the label. (no copies of any record have been able to reproduce this) and it comes in a BBC in-house cover with the inner polythene lining overlapping the opening edges. These were exclusive to these BBC Transcription discs. The condition of this example is 'near mint', both cover and record. There would have been no more than a dozen or so made which makes this a very valuable Lennon artifact.
I know that serious Beatles collectors will understand exactly what this is and will realise what an opportunity this represents to aquire such a rare item.
However, I will welcome any queries and comments about this and will be happy to share these with others via this auction site.
I know this will find a very happy and proud buyer!

As with other rare items I am listing I would like to tell you a little about me to give you confidence in bidding and to assure you that these are absolutely genuine items. I am the managing director of the world famous BEANOS RECORDS and we have had our shops in South London for over 30 years. I write about rare records, appear on TV and Radio and constantly in the National Press. It is BEANOS LIMITED that are selling this most desirable item but I want to be your contact for any queries and, also, to take away the faceless negotiation that an important international auction can sometimes have. I can tell you everything you need to know about this auction lot if you email me with any questions and, you are welcome to visit our shop and view the actual item (by prior appointment) with myself. I have to point out that most of the goods I offer on eBay are also on sale in my shop and I might have to end an auction early if I have another buyer.
