There is no getting away from the fact that the overall condition of this 'hard to come by' boxset has been effected by its exposure to damp. In the past, I suspect that the box has been used to prop up other vinyl, and as a result been exposed to any adverse climatic conditions ie. rising damp. As you can see, both the cardboard and the laminate are wrinkled. The Tray
Again there is rippling in the cardboard tray caused by the damp, but it is totally intact, with neither rips nor tears. And don't forget, under normal circumstances, you wouldn't even see the rear of the tray. The book
Again the bottom half of the book shows signs of exposure to the damp, but it is totally intact and none of it's pages are stuck together or ripped.
The record itself plays perfectly, in spite of small surface scuffs, which is good news, since acoustically, this boxset contains one of the better pressings of 'Let It Be'. The labels are clean and bright too except for the almost undiscernable tiny specks of dried damp residue on them, but these spots wiped off easily enough with a dry cloth. This was done after these photos were taken.
Be assured, that this 'much sought after' Beatles boxset, despite the wear and tear it has suffered over the years, is still an impressive object and in my opinion, worthy of a place in any record collection.
With more knowledge and skill than I possess, I'm sure that this item can be made to look more presentable.
This is one of a number of albums owned by a collector who would only play the disc two or three times before committing the album to tape. I have many more that I will list in the future including more originals by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.Please note that all the photos of this item were taken by myself and in such a way that any flaws are instantly obvious to any potential buyer. I could have taken these photos head on avoiding showing the rippling but this way the bidder may get a pleasant suprise when he or she sees the over all condition of their purchase.
