Well, this is it folks. This is my last week of selling the big stuff on eBay! It's been a great 6 months and I hope there have been gaps in your collection that have now been filled. This week is my final push of some of the best records and memorabilia I have! Thank you all so much for following me!
Please be aware that all records are VISUALLY graded only - all grades are given based on how they appear under my desk lamp - since I do not own a record player. I cannot guarantee that discs will be click and skip free, although any marks and scratches that might possibly cause such problems will be highlighted clearly in the description.

This is a 100% genuine STEREO 'Yesterday and Today' 3rd state Butcher Cover! This is one of the most desireable, most highly collectible Beatles albums (or in fact *any* album) out there, due to it's rarity and to it's incredible back story!
In 1966 Robert Whittaker was a photographer called to conduct a photo session for Capitol's next LP, 'Yesterday and Today'. Soon, the band were tiring of doing 'another Beatle thing', so Robert decided to do something more unique and pulled out some butcher smocks, baby dolls and slabs of meat. The photos taken during this part of the session were never meant to be taken seriously and were purely to break the mood and have some fun. Unfortunately, nobody told Capitol and they soon picked one of the images taken during that session for the front of their latest release. When the initial copies were sent out to record stores and radio stations the reaction was, as expected, extremely negative. The album was immediately recalled and many copies were destroyed (some copies were said to have been dumped in a landfill somewhere) until the decision was made to paste a new slick with an innocent band photo over the top.
The Butcher Cover comes in three states. 1st State is the original Butcher slick that has had nothing pasted over it. 2nd State is a copy with the 'trunk' cover still stuck to the original Butcher and 3rd State is where someone has attempted to peel the 'trunk' slick back off to reveal the Butcher cover underneath.
This copy up for auction is for a 3rd state. Not only that, but this is the extremely rare STEREO pressing! In 1966 mono was still pretty much the dominant format and stereo sold in far, far fewer numbers. Because of this, the initial run of 750,000 copies of this album weere pressed at an approximate 5:1 ratio in favour of mono over stereo. Or, in other words, just 20% of Butcher albums that were ever manufactured were stereo..
Due to the nature to how the Trunk slick was pasted over the Butcher, it was incredibly difficult to peel it without damaging the Butcher slick underneath. In fact, the majority of 3rd states were completely trashed by over-eager fans trying to see what was lurking underneath. Decent peels of the Butcher cover are incredibly hard to find and, because of this and of it's reputation, are extremely collectible!!
This is an absolutely beautiful peel of this incredible rarity! Also included is a modern copy of the original Butcher Recall letter! Sadly there is no orange Capitol inner sleeve but these weren't unique to the Butchers and can be easily found.
A very rare chance to pick up this true Beatles Holy Grail of collecting! Would look awesome framed!!

The cover is holding up okay with some general, light wear and tear. Whoever did the peel on this cover did a truly remarkable job - most that turn up these days are very badly peeled with tears in the slick and water damage from the peel attempt. There is a little dirt on the slick, which is understandable as there is pretty much no laminate on the original Butcher slicks. There are some small tears in the slick as you can see in the photos above and at the top left there's a little light dirt. There's a very small couple of wrinkles at the top right. The bottom seam has cellotape that has been stuck to the very bottom of the Butcher slick and runs all along the bottom to just about an inch or so away from the bottom left corner. Top seam has a little wear and some knocks but is holding tight with no splits or tears. Bottom seam appears to have torn and crudely repaired with cellotape, but looks good. The spine is holding fine although there's a little rubbing on it. There are no splits or tears and all the text is fully legible. The back has a little ringwear and some water stains - no doubt from when the cover was peeled, but there's no tears or anything. Laura Stevens has written her name top left corner. Overall, showing its age a little but still holding up much better than most butchers that come on the market. Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : EX-

The playing surface has a nice, clean shine to it and just some light scuffing. Nothing major. Looking nice!.

The labels are looking immaculate! No writing, stains, tears or anything and with bright, clean silver text. No visible spindlewear and no whitening around the centrehole. Top, top labels!
