BEATLES MEGA-RARE CAPITOL OF CANADA LOT WITH 16 45s + BONUS! ONE GREAT DEAL, EH?

You’re bidding on an outstanding collection of RARE Beatles 45s manufactured by Capitol of Canada from 1964-1968.

These are the same songs simultaneously released in the U.S. and the U.K. These are NOT alternate versions. The familiar yellow/orange swirl labels are printed in Canada slightly darker, and the fonts might be different depending on the pressing plant.

Why are they rare? The population of Canada in the 60s was one-tenth that of the U.S. Fewer discs out there back then means they’re more scarce—and potentially far more valuable—today.

PLEASE NOTE: The 45s in this listing are NOT from the CapCan 72000 series. If you’re interested in these, I put them up from time to time. Make me a Favored Seller for a heads-up on the next auction.

So here, in alphabetical order, is what you get:   

A HARD DAY’S NIGHT/I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. CAPITOL 5222 

Released in July 1964, only around 5000 were sold (according to Capitol6000.com)! And look—not a mark on it, save for slight ringwear on the B side! And after a few scratchy seconds in the deadwax, both songs sound great.

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE/BABY YOU’RE A RICH MAN. CAPITOL 5964  

Original copies—like this one—have perimeter print with the word (CANADA) in parenthesis. The A side has some tape residue, almost invisible. The B side is terrific—which also describes the audio.

CAN’T BUY ME LOVE/ YOU CAN’T DO THAT. CAPITOL 5150  

Issued on March 13, 1964—just four days after the Beatles first performed on The Ed Sullivan Show. A nice-looking disc with only slight ringwear. And it sounds just like “the boys” intended it.

EIGHT DAYS A WEEK/ I DON’T WANT TO SPOIL THE PARTY. CAPITOL 5371 

Released on Feb. 15, 1965 with parts from the Capitol pressing plant in Scranton, PA. This is one terrific-sounding disc, with just a bit of writing on the A side and less-than-normal label wear.

HELP!/I’M DOWN. CAPITOL 5476  

This package offers some incredible 45s after so many years--and here's another one! You'd be hard-pressed to see or hear anything amiss with this disc. A name on the B side has faded with time to be almost imperceptible.

I FEEL FINE/SHE’S A WOMAN. CAPITOL 5327 

From late ’64, there’s moderate ringwear on this disc, with small writing on both sides. The songs and the sound, however, are sure to make you feel fine, indeed!

I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND/I SAW HER STANDING THERE. CAPITOL 5112  

In January 1964, Capitol of Canada issued the first record that corresponded on both sides with the same release in America. And this disc still sounds awfully close to what was heard back then. A stunning label, too! The B-side publisher is Pincus. A very slight warp in the opening groove does not affect playback.

I’LL CRY INSTEAD/I’M HAPPY JUST TO DANCE WITH YOU. CAPITOL 5234  

This disc actually came out a week before the same single in America. It sold poorly, making it even more scarce and valuable today. And it does rock, with John on the A-Side and George--"the shy Beatle"--on the flip side. There's some minor ringwear on the labels, but no owner markings.  

LADY MADONNA/ THE INNER LIGHT. CAPITOL 2138  

Released on March 11, 1968, Canadian teens brought this home a week before American and British fans did. It was the last Capitol swirl, as subsequent Beatles records would be on the Apple label.  It sounds great, and there’s only marginal label wear.

NOWHERE MAN/ WHAT GOES ON. CAPITOL 5587  

Issued on Feb. 21, 1966, the record was not released at all in the UK. This earlier pressing credits the B side to Lennon/McCartney. Later pressings added Ringo as a songwriter and are even more rare. This one begins with some scratchiness, but it clears up quickly. A minor warp on the very outside does not affect playback. The labels on both sides have more significant wear, but no labels or markings.

PAPERBACK WRITER/ RAIN. CAPITOL 5651 

Issued on May 30, 1966, this was the last single to have the perimeter print on first pressings with the word CANADA without brackets. This is maybe the best record in the package, with excellent audio and an almost flawless label.

PENNY LANE/ STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER. CAPITOL 5810  

Another swirl with a bit of history. This is an early pressing, with the running time shown for “Penny Lane” of 3:00. Subsequent pressings had the corrected time of 2:57. This original copy has CANADA in brackets in the perimeter print. There’s age-appropriate ringwear on both sides. The audio is exceptionally clean, a real pleasure to play!

TICKET TO RIDE/YES IT IS. CAPITOL 5407 

Here’s an awesome disc from April 1965, with only the most minor smudge on the A side, and a sound like it just came from the record store!

WE CAN WORK IT OUT/ DAY TRIPPER. CAPITOL 5555  

A double-A-sided hit from late 1965, there’s label wear and previous owner markings on both sides, but once it’s on the turntable, look out!

YELLOW SUBMARINE/ELEANOR RIGBY. CAPITOL 5715  

Canadian teens got these two timeless tunes a week before we did in the States. It was the first single to have the word CANADA in brackets on the first pressing—and this is one of them. The label has a number marked on both sides, and a name label on the A side. Both sides are crystal clear, particularly George Martin’s brilliant string arrangement on “Eleanor Rigby.”

YESTERDAY/ACT NATURALLY CAPITOL 5498  

A terrific single which, in fact, was not issued in the UK. The A side has super-light writing near the title that has thankfully all but faded out of sight. The audio is as clean as they come, even at 57 years young!
