This Capitol Souvenir Record (Capitol SPRO-2905/06) was issued in 1965 to celebrate the grand opening of Capitol Records 3rd U.S. pressing plant in Jacksonville Illinois. It was made in the most limited of issues and was never ever offered for sale to the public !!
This super rare sleeve does show some minor wear but is still very vibrant and completely fully intact with NO seam splits, (Incredibly rare to have zero splits), NO tape , NO writing anywhere and NO price stickers. it's virtually impossible to find these after 55+ years.
The high gloss vinyl shows almost no play. That's very unusual for these rare promo Capitol Compact 33 EPs. The labels are stunningly vibrant spectacular and **MINT** with NO writing, NO fading, NO tears, NO rips and NO stickers !!! It will arrive with a NM Original Capitol Compact 33 black sleeve so you can safely store your record out of the Ultra Rare picture sleeve to preserve the usually soft seams !!
CAPITOL COMPACT 33 SOUVENIR RECORD SPRO-2905/2906 1965
In 1965, to meet increasing American demand for Beatles records, Capitol Records opened a modern, state of the art vinyl record manufacturing facility in Jacksonville, Illinois, United States. On Sunday, July 11th 1965, the facility hosted an open house, at which all attendees were given a free souvenir record, featuring snippets of hit songs from Capitol's roster of popular recording artists. It is a known fact that less then 1000 of these Compact 33s we produced and given out to all the executives, and extremely important invited guests. The amount that have known to survive after 55 years is not exactly known, but it's anywhere from a handful to less then 100 !!
Capitol celebrated the opening of its third pressing plant in Jacksonville, Illinois, with a Capitol Compact 33 version, containing songs recorded by its most profitable artists. With Scranton Pa. and Los Angeles Ca. being the first two plants, the Midwest location gave the label a central shipping point from it's new address: '1 Capitol Way'. To celebrate this opening, Capitol issued a Compact 33 format 'Souvenir' extended play record, packaged in a new vibrant picture sleeve featuring a color photograph on the front of the new plant, with statements and portrait photos from top Capitol executives, on the back. The disc contained excerpts from songs of some of Capitol Records biggest and most profitable stars, including The Beatles contribution, 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand'. Company president Alan Livingston wrote in the sleeve notes: "This new facility is more than the result of our ever-growing production demands, it is to us at Capitol the fulfillment of a long-time dream - The world's first completely automatic twelve-inch record manufacturing plant. We are very proud of our achievement, and of vice president George Jones and the others who envisioned it long before it became a reality." This new Capitol Records Jacksonville Illinois pressing plant was considered "The House The Beatles Built" !!
