Description
BEATLES ORIGINAL 1966 UK LP REVOLVER
MONO 1st PRESS 606-1
Parlophone PMC 7009
This is the rare copy of the very 1st pressing of the Beatles album Revolver which can be identified by the 606-1 matrix number stamped on the vinyl on side 2. It has the 60's yellow/black labels and also the familiar statement ' Sold in the UK subject to etc' printed on the labels. It has a Garrod and Lofthouse outer sleeve with characteristic flipbacks on the rear. The inner white sleeve has patent nos 1,125,556 and Made in Great Britain printed on it which I believe is the original. EMI changed from the usual emitex inner for this specific pressing.
This rare issue was probably only made for a day and it comes up for auction less and less as collectors buy up the remaining copies. This copy has the remix 11 of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' which John did not like. Production was stopped and changed to remix 9 which is found on later copies of the album and the matrix number changed from 606-1 to 606-2 on side 2.
The Vinyl is graded as VG+. There are a few odd fine lines on both sides but no major marks or scratches. The record plays reasonably well with very little background sound and I think warrants the grading. The labels are excellent as can be seen in the photos. No real wear to the labels just the odd faint spider mark which you have to look for in the light. The outer sleeve is VG+, there are no major faults. The front has some creases and the rear is clean without any writing or marks, see photos. Edges and corners show very little wear and the flipbacks are all intact. The spine is intact with very little wear and the album name can be clearly read.
Side 1 605-2 Martix number G (?) NA
Side 2 606-1 Matrix number 2 RL
Overall this is a reasonable copy of this very rare album where the average copy on auction is of a similar grading or less. Higher gradings are now even rarer and command very high prices. The Revolver 606-1 is a good record for pleasure and investment. what more could you ask?
