“The ‘Yellow and Black’ label design which would remain throughout the 1960s. Almost immediately after the labels were changed from the Gold design to the Yellow, it was soon discovered that although the new labels featured the ’33 1/3? prefix prominently above the Parlophone name, part of the label print plates were left unchanged whilst the transition was taking place. Because of this, the small ’33 1/3? prefix that appeared to the right of the matrix number on the gold label remained. Since there was no need for the prefix to be included twice the smaller one was removed pretty much instantaneously after it’s discovery. This first black and yellow label without publishing year used a very short time: summer 1963 only”.

EXCELLENT++ ON BOTH SIDES: THE HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL RETAINS IT’S GLOSS & SHEEN. IT HAS A FEW MINOR HAIRLINES, VISIBLE UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT. THERE IS LIMITED EVIDENCE OF USE AND PLAY BUT OVERALL IT CAN BE GRADED AS ‘EXCELLENT++’
IT IS PERFECTLY FLAT WITHOUT ANY WARP
AUDIO: PLAYS SUPERBLY
‘EXCELLENT ++’ CLOSE TO NEAR MINT. NOTHING TO INTERFERE WITH THE ENJOYMENT OF THE RECORD. NO SKIPS, JUMPS OR OBVIOUS CLICKS WHATSOEVER.
LABELS:
‘EXCELLENT++’. SOME EVIDENCE OF SPINDLE ALIGNMENT BUT VERY CLEAR BLACK LABELS & LETTERING.
INNER SLEEVE:
ORIGINAL ‘EMITEX’ INNER IN NEAR MINT-CONDITION
OUTER LAMINATED ORIGINAL SLEEVE: VERY GOOD+
THIS IS THE SAME SLEEVE AS THE ‘GOLD’ 1ST PRESSINGS WITH THE ANGUS McBEAN CREDIT DIRECTLY BELOW THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE ‘S’ OF SONGS
NAME OF ORIGINAL OWNER ON THE BACK IN BIRO.
SOME SCUFFING TO CORNERS AND EDGES (SEE PHOTOS).
I WOULD GRADE THE SLEEVE AS VERY GOOD+ WITH OBVIOUS SIGNS OF GENERAL WEAR ALONG THE EDGES & CORNERS ETC. THERE IS A SMALL TEAR ALONG THE BOTTOM EDGE ON THE REVERSE (SEE PHOTOS). THE FRONT LAMINATE ITSELF IS INTACT AND IS GENERALLY IN EXCELLENT CONDITION
“The first pressing has Ernest J.Day & Co. front laminated cover, with large “mono” on front. The photo credit for the front cover: “Photo Angus McBean” is printed in the lower right corner. The text starts at the end of “s” in “songs”.
