BEATLES PLEASE PLEASE ME Black and Gold STEREO: V. RARE
Low reserve A fine example of the first limited UK release (around 900 copies) of The Beatles 'Please Please Me' in Stereo, April 1963, with one careful owner since then. This, the Holy Grail of Beatles vinyl collectors, has all the right qualities:
THE RECORD: Black and Gold labels in good condition, with the correct Dick James credits. Lies absolutely flat, unwarped, and plays perfectly with no hiss or pop. A fantastic stereo experience on both sides. Correct matrix codes on the runout on both sides: YEX 94-1, YEX 95-1. Correct stampers 1/G and 1/R.
THE INNER SLEEVE: Original and correct inner promoting the Emitex cleaning cloth. Slight yellowing round the edges and creasing across top.
THE OUTER SLEEVE: The correct E J Day day sleeve with the large STEREO logo and the Angus McBean photo credit far to the bottom right (turning almost over on to the sleeve edge, in fact). It is still glossy on the front, and the printing on the back is bright and distinct. There is wear to the sleeve edges but the print is still bright overall with no writing or staining. Flipbacks are all in position, though the topmost one is not perfect (see picture).
AN INVESTMENT: The increasing rarity of fine copies of the Stereo pressing of Please Please Me makes this an attractive investment for the future, as well as a splendid and eminently playable collector's piece.
