Description
This is a First Press copy of the iconic debut Beatles album Please Please Me in it's original first state sleeve. With the Dick James credits on the label and Angus McBean photo credit in the right place on the far right of back sleeve this is one of the very first to roll off the press all those years ago. The stereo version might well be rarer but it was this original mono press that was first to get into the shops back in early 1963 and it's the mono version especially first press that has the loud attacking sound full of depth which leaps out of the speakers and sends shivers down your spine. This is the album that changed the popular music world overnight and you can still hear why today. The months of honing their playing skills during the gruelling nights in Hamburg paid off giving the album a genuine "live" feel and with maestro George Martin at the controls History was made in Abbey Road Studios in just ONE day!
An honest visual grading of the vinyl is only Good condition with numerous marks and scratches but I would rate audio as VG minus.
I have included audio samples of 4 tracks including the 2 with worst scratches "Love me do" and "P.S. I Love You".
Both sides play through fine with the exception of one tiny jump towards the end of Love Me Do.
Overall the sound is still loud and powerful with surface noise only really apparent between tracks.
Have a listen for yourself below. I have recorded samples direct into Quicktime with no filters or effects.
The cover is again only rated Good plus with lots of creasing, scuffing and some staining especially to rear.
It is all in one piece however... Please look at photos for detail.
The iconic black and gold labels are VG with slight sticker residue on one side.
Matrices are XEX 421 - 1N and XEX 42 - 1N and there is a T stamper visible on the label of side 2.
With a low starting bid this is your chance to own a good playable piece of History!
