Both sides of the vinyl are better than VERY GOOD+ condition according to the Record Collector's Grading System. It's actually very close to being EXCELLENT.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT IS IN MINT CONDITION, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID FOR THIS IF YOU NEED A MINT COPY.

The record has obviously been played, but it has been well cared for. There are a number of light marks on both sides, and there is a light scratch through the track "Love Me Do". There is a noticeable crackle between tracks, and this is occasionally audible during some of the quieter passages, but as there aren't very many quiet passages, this doesn't detract from the listener's enjoyment. Both sides play all the way through with no jumps or skips whatsoever.

As you can see from the photos, both of the gold and black labels are nice and clean, with no writing, stickers, or other marks. The side 1 label has no spindle marks at all, and the side 2 label has only a couple of very minor ones.

There is a "Use Emitex" inner sleeve. It is in VG condition, splitting along one seam.

The outer triple flipback "Ernest J Day & Co" sleeve is in absolutely EXCELLENT condition, especially considering its age. It has Angus McBean's photography credit in the right place for gold and black label pressings (below the second letter "s" in the word "Songs"). It is a good solid sleeve, with no writing, stickers, rips, tape, creases, etc, AND boasts perfect edges at the opening,  and a crystal-clear sharp spine, as shown in the photos.

When this album was originally released, the tracks "I Saw Her Standing There", "Misery", "Do You Want To Know A Secret" and "There's A Place" were listed with the publishing credit "DICK JAMES MUSIC CO". This was an error, and new labels showing the correct publisher for these tracks, "NORTHERN SONGS LTD" were produced. Some sources say this was because of a change in publishing arrangements, and others say that George Martin simply made an error when he submitted the track details to the record company.

THE MOST INTERESTING ASPECT OF THIS ITEM IS THAT IT HAS BEEN GIVEN ONE OF THE "FIRST PRESSING" LABELS AND ONE OF THE "SECOND PRESSING". (I AM USING RECORD COLLECTOR'S TERMINOLOGY HERE, AS IT WAS MORE ACCURATELY A CHANGE OF LABEL FROM TYPE 1 TO TYPE 2, AND NOT A NEW PRESSING.)

As you can see in the pictures, the side 1 label shows the publisher of "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Misery" as being "Dick James Mus. Co.", while the side 2 label shows the publisher of "Do You Want To Know A Secret" and "There's A Place" as being "Northern Songs Ltd."

Accordingly, this is an exceptionally rare piece of vinyl. There have been very few of these available on eBay over the years, and you may have a long wait to see another one, let alone one in such condition, with such a splendid cover.

Before you scoff at the starting price, have a look on popsike and elsewhere online, and see if you can find a comparable piece at a lower price. This item was previously listed with a reserve, which seems to have deterred bidders, so please ask any questions you may have, and don't miss this - it might be years before you get another chance.

The stamper numbers indicate this was a very early pressing, and coupled with the extremely rare crossover labels, and the overall condition of the item, both vinyl and sleeve, this really is an opportunity you should not miss.

The item will be packed between two stiffeners in a proper record mailer. The vinyl will be contained in a polythene Nagaoka anti-static record sleeve, which will itself be placed in a pvc sleeve along with the outer sleeve and the original inner.

I will keep the p&p cost down to £4.00 to UK addresses, but due to the value of this item, I will send it Special Delivery Next Day – signed for, which will cost a little more, but I will pay the extra – UK bidders will pay only £4.00 shipping!

Postage to European countries will be by Airsure Packets – tracked and signed for, and will cost £10.00.

Postage to all other countries will be by equivalent Airmail services, tracked and signed for, and will cost £16.50

All of the above postage options include insurance for up to £500.00. If cover is required for more than that, shipping costs may be revised accordingly.
