The BEATLES

PLEASE PLEASE ME

1 Box EMI

1969 Transitional press!!...VERY Few Exist!!!

(LABEL ERROR TOO)

This was the very first official release, being released on the 22nd of March 1963 (MONO version) and later on the 26th of April 1963 (STEREO version). The Lp reached number one in; Disc Weekly, Melody Maker, New Musical Express and The Record Retailer in the UK. Only to be knocked off by their next album With The Beatles.

Amazingly the songs, which were taken from their first two singles and included a further ten songs, were all recorded in one marathon session at Abbey Road Studios. John wasn't feeling too well and got throught the 3 sessions in the one day by having milk, tea and Zubes lozenges....

The record I have for sale here:

Catalogue number: Parlophone PCS 3042

Matrix Number Side 1: YEX 94-1N

Matrix Number Side 2: YEX 95-1N

Mothers/Stampers Side 1: 2 @ 12 O'clock PD @ 6 O'clock

Mothers/Stampers Side 2: 1 @ 11 O'clock OO @ 5 O'clock

This pressing is one of the first 7th presses, making the transition from the Yellow Parlophone labels in 1969. The format wasn't liked, with just the one EMI box and was quickly withdrawn, only to be re-relaesed as the 8th press, but this time with the more common 2 box EMI label. Not many of these 1 box EMI labels made it through the net....and hard to find in this condition!

Vinyl: NM!!!!!. There are only the lightest of marks to the record, with nothing at all to affect the play. I am just listening to the vinyl right now, with headphones on and turned right up....WOW....takes you right back to the magical 60's FAB!!! The Beatles in all their original glory.

Labels: EX+++. There is hardly any central hole wear as seen in the pictures, just some light spindle wear, visible only when angled to the light. Other than that the labels stand out nice and clean, with no writing or anything to detract from it's gorgeousness.

Outer rim text starts with "The Gramophone Co.Ltd" with no "Recording First Published" text. The later labels had the outer rim text stating an "EMI recording..."

****As a note: There appears to be a label error on side 2's label....Song number 6 is spelt with a lower case 'h': "ThERE'S A PLACE"

!!!UNUSUAL!!!

Inner: VG+. "Made In England HMO 0872 33" white inner, no splits or tears but discloured due to age.

Cover: VG. There has been some wear to this cover. There is a split of 3cm to the bottom edge as well as some areas of spidering to the laminate. The bottom right corner has a slight 'nibble' to it of around 1cm. The back is a little grubby, but the flipbacks are still strong and all inplace. It is a genuine Garrod and Lofthouse cover with the Angus McBean in the lower right corner on the front.

The bit that stands out, for me, is that it IS THE ORIGINAL RECORD COVER FOR THIS RECORD, as it has the 'STEREO' in the top right corner, in the small formet....THIS COVER HAS NOT BEEN SWAPPED OUT...IT IS GENUINE!!!! So many you see for sale have been chaged.
