The begging of the band roots back to 1957. At that time, John Lennon and Paul  McCartney created their first group together with their friends from Quarry Bank  School. At first, they called themselves Blackjacks, but the name quickly  changed to The Quarry Men. Year and a half later, the band gained a new drummer  - Stuart Sutcliffe. It was the time, when the boys performed in local pubs and  bars. What is more, their band name was constantly changing; it started from  Johny And The Moondogs, Silver Beats, all the way to The Silver Beatles. Finally,  after Pete Beast joined the group, the band called itself The Beatles. 5-man  band took Hamburg by storm. At that place, they parted ways with Stuart, who  wanted to become fully engaged in painting. Hamburg was also the place where the  boys met a music manager - Brian Epstein. On 61/62 New Year’ Eve, Beatles  travelled to London to start negotiations concerning their first contract.  However, the then company manager, Dick Rowe, was not fully convinced about the  skills of the boys, so the agreement between the parties was not concluded.  Around that time, Stuart Sutcliffe died of stroke.

The members of the band  decided to fully trust Epstein and change their image from leather jackets to  suits. Then, they also met one of the most influential people in their career –  George Martin. The group lost Pete Beast, and one of their friends – Ringo Starr  became a drummer.

The first recording  session of the band took place on 6th June 1962 at Abbey Road Studio where such  songs as Please Please Me, P.S. I Love You, and Love Me Do were recorded. The  latter one was a single promoting the record of the band from Liverpool and  debuted on the 17th place of the Retailer Record.

In February 1963,  fourteen Beatles’ songs recorded during one of the sessions were included on the  Please Please Me album and published by a German record company called  Parlophone which was managed by Martin. After the great success of such singles  as Love Me Do and Please Please Me, the whole album was appreciated by the  audience as well. As a debut album, it achieved a significant commercial record,  reached the British hit list in 1963, and stayed there for thirty months.  Paradoxically, it was replaced by the second Beatles album titled With The  Beatles. In 2003, the Rolling Stone magazine put the album on 39th place in the  ranking of 500 best albums ever recorded. What is more, the same magazine put  two songs form the said record on the list of 500 best songs ever. Those were: I  Saw Her Standing There, and Please, Please Me. The third single - From Me to You,  was published in April and was successful as well. She Loves You made availed to  the public afterwards was sold in 750 thousand copies within less than four  weeks.

George Martin – the  caretaker of the band and the lover of London Zoo, had a vision of the cover –  he decided to take a photo of The Beatles with the insect section of the zoo in  the background, as it was thought to be a great advertisement of the object.  Nevertheless, the London Zoological Association rejected the idea. Therefore,  Angus McBean suggested picturing the band looking down the balcony of the EMI  headquarters in London. The idea was accepted and put into action
  

A note on  grading: I use the RC standard grading policy with the addition of a + or  – to denote a slight increase or decrease in grade. The record has been played  once for aural grading a on a Rega RP6 with a Rega Exact cart and inspected under  100W bulb for visual grade.

DISC is VERY GOOD minus or GOOD  plus, has many lines and light scratches, but plays much better than it  looks. Plays around VERY GOOD plus.
