Description

This is a very hard Canadian Beatles 45 to find in excellent condition. It is from Capitol of Canada #72090 featuring “Please Please Me/Ask Me Why”. This was the second Beatles 45 released in Canada following “Love Me Do”. According to "Rockin' Records" guide the first release date was April/9/1963. Canada was not yet ready for the Beatles and sold about 180 copies of the April issue. This is NOT one of the very first 180 but is pressed from the same "master" or "Mother" plates.  The story is that when "Dick James Music" owned the publishing rights they lost so much money that they sold everything (including the pressing items and master plates) to "Concertone Songs Inc." who made plenty of money. When the Beatles caught on later in ’63 Capitol of Canada re-released the record using the same equipment that pressed the first "Dick James" records.  As you can see in the photos the credits are “McCartney-Lennon” on both sides and there is no comma between "Please Please Me". On side one the matrix # is 7XCE 17217. On the "Ask Me Why" side the matrix # is 7XCA 17218.   The matrix numbers are hand etched.  The A side label has 7XC"E" 17218 so this is unique as well. This particular copy was well cared for since it's release on November 26, 1963. (not April 1963) A copy of this pressing closed for $150 on ebay in May of this year.The vinyl is in excellent condition. Play tested as EXCELLENT with no skips or pops and almost NO surface noise at all. (the vinyl shows the reflection of my wife taking the pic) Very nice playable copy that is now 49 years old! The labels are VG++ with no writing, tears, stickers, very light rubbing and some ultra light discoloration but not a distraction. I include the original Capitol sleeve which is in excellent condition with no seam splits. I also have other auctions posted this week for some great Beatles stuff, so check them out too.
