The following information is taken from PRICE GUIDE FOR THE BEATLES AMERICAN RECORDS, 6TH EDITION (2007), by PERRY COX AND FRANK DANIELS:
This 45 is VJ 498.DJ1. This is a promotional 45, an ultra rare advance copy issued only for use by disc jockeys in America. It is supposedly the first official J Lennon/P McCartney recorded issued in the U.S.! This 45 was intended to promote the song PLEASE PLEASE ME here in the States. This is EXTREMELY RARE in ANY condition, but especially rare in this VG condition.
White label with gray rim. OVAL LOGO. Artist misspelled as THE BEATTLES. Thin print version. Originally issued in February of 1963, even though this copy was stamped by the original receiving DJ, for March 13th of that year!
In 2007, Mr Cox valued this 45, in this VG condition, as $625 dollars. That was over 10 years ago! I have NEVER played this 45 since purchasing it back then! Some very light marks and wear to labels, but nothing sticks out worth mentioning, except perhaps the ink stamped date on the A-Side, but in my opinion, that only enhances the historical and therefore, collectable value! Therefore, I have set the BUY IT NOW value as $1000, but I am VERY OPEN to BEST OFFERS!!! SO, please don't hesitate to send a reasonable offer for this gem!
