Description
BEATLES REVOLVER LP 1ST PRESS 1966 MONO XEX 606-1 MATRIX
On offer is The BEATLES LP entitled REVOLVER released in the UK in MONO on yellow-black PARLOPHONE PMC 7009 in 1966. This is a 1st press MONO with the Side 2 matrix XEX-606-1. It also has the DR. ROBERT credit on the Side 2 label.
- The matrix numbers of the disc are: SIDE ONE - XEX 605–2 and SIDE TWO - XEX 606-1 respectively. This SIDE TWO matrix is the rare mono first pressing version with the alternate "Remix 11" version of Tomorrow Never Knows. This miss-press was included on only the very first mono pressings of this LP. Some miss-pressings with Remix 11 (such as the one here for sale) did escape the pressing plant on the first day. These are very rare and sought after, identified by the matrix number XEX-606-1 on side 2 of the LP.
- The disc label includes the song-title ‘DR. ROBERT’ [not DOCTOR ROBERT] on Side Two.
- ‘THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD.’ text is around the rim of the disc.
- The disc labels have the ‘SOLD IN U.K…text.
- The front cover has – mono – IN BOLD LETTERING.
- The flip-back sleeve has the manufacturer credit: ‘Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents pending’.
- The disc has the original / correct ‘Use Emitex’ inner.
The description of this LP which contains the long, alternative version of Tomorrow Never Knows is as follows –
· The disc has nice clean labels with some spindle wear visible.
· The disc is visually in EX condition on Side 1 and VG+ condition on side 2. The vinyl on both sides is very clean with a nice sheen. There are some hairline marks on Side 1 (which is graded EX) that do not affect play. I have just test played the disc for the first time in many years and Side 1 plays well with some minor occasional background/ surface noise. Side 2 has a few marks not affecting play and one noticeable scratch mark towards the end of Tomorrow Never Knows which causes a few clicks as it plays through (but NO skip or jump).
· The Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd - earliest 'Patents Pending' laminated flip-back picture sleeve front cover - is in nice EX to EX- condition and the non-laminated back cover is also very clean and in nice condition. There is some minor creasing in the very bottom right hand front / left hand back corner.
· The spine is in nice condition. The LP title on the spine: Revolver – The Beatles looks good and the spine is strong.
· The ‘Use Emitex’ inner is in lovely condition. This inner no longer houses the disc which is now kept in a new plain white inner to protect the disc and the original inner. Both inners will – of course - be supplied to the winner.
The tracks are - Taxman / Eleanor Rigby / I'm only sleeping / Love you to / Here there and everywhere / Yellow submarine / She said she said / Good day sunshine / And your bird can sing / For no one / Dr Robert / I want to tell you / Got to get you into my life / Tomorrow never knows.
