Background to this Export pressing:

REVOLVER was first released in Germany on 28 July 1966 on the cream, gold & red Odeon label (SHZE-186). It was released in conjunction with “Hor Zu” magazine which provided advertising support for the album in West Germany – as it did for many of Odeon’s German domestic market record releases. Consequently, as a quid pro quo, the “Hor Zu” name was featured on the original German domestic market release. The domestic release contained a label error on Side B where the 5th track is listed as, “I Want To Love You” instead of “I Want to Tell You”.

However, this much rarer export pressing (SMO 74-161/ZTOX 5623) was manufactured in Germany, in very small numbers, for export to the Austria & Swiss markets; and released in those markets in around August 1966. Odeon had the rights to release this LP under licence in both of those markets rather than Parlophone. The export version was also made available to the UK and USA Armed Forces stationed in Germany at the time, as the armed force bases were technically outside of West Germany - which is probably why a few export pressings ended up in the UK and America.

This export pressing was not released in conjunction with “Hor Zu” magazine in Austria or Switzerland – so the “Hor Zu” text was removed from the export labels and from the cover. This export release also contained a label error on Side B where the 5th track is listed as, “I Want To Love You” instead of “I Want to Tell You”.

Popsike indicates that the last one of these export pressings sold for £75 in January this year .......

Cover: Laminated front (unlaminated rear) Odeon export cover without the 'Hor Zu' credits. Has the 'SMO 74 161' export catalogue number on both the front and rear of the cover. Excellent condition for a 50 year old cover - see photos.

Inner sleeve: Comes with its original poly-lined inner sleeve which is Near Excellent - see photos.

Labels: German Odeon cream, gold and red labels are widely recognised as some of the best designed labels ever made - and these are in stunning Near Mint condition. No writings, doodles or stickers. Hard to believe they are 50 years old - see scans.

Vinyl: Not play tested but looks to be in VG+ condition. Lovely sheen and only a handful of light marks to be seen under a strong light. Although now 50 years old, this record has clearly been lightly played and well cared for - see photos.
